I work at a Med Spa and for aesthetic services most tip, for medical most do not. Our treatment providers are commissioned based for based on the type of treatment and what product they sell.

Re: Tipping at a Medical Spa

Thanks for reviving this thread. My sister has an appointment at another office run by a dermatologist. The office she had currently attended was run by an absentee endocrine specialist (go figure). Anyway, she asked up front if they accepted or encouraged tips and they were quite put out. They were emphatic in their denial. BYW, she will be getting IPLs and facials there. So, not everything will be separated by definitive line of professional works vs non professional work. The tips thing really turned her off. She was paying good money for special facials and IPLs, and, to tip on top of that would have been, well, lets say, a lot. But, it is interesting is it not, how the original office very likely will lose a good(self pay) customer due to a tip policy. They will never know since she more than likely will just switch and never mention why.

YES TIP your Estheticians!!!  I am an Esthetician and perform most of the treatments at the Medical Spa where I work and my previous employment. I  rely on tips as part of my income.  Estheticians typically get paid $15-$20 per hour and do not receive any employee benefits such as Paid time off, sick days, health care nor retirement.  This is a service industry.  Doctors may own the med spa but, they hire Estheticians to perform the treatments. Estheticians go to trade shcools to get their license and continue to advance thier knowlege by continuing ecducation.

Nurses are very expensive to hire so most med spa treatments are done by the Estheticians.  Estheticians  also perform most of the laser treatments.  We have to go to laser school to get certified in lasers and continue our trianing constantly.

We  work very long hours and go through alot of training to do what we do.  I for one am extrememly passionate about skin care and take the utmost care of my clients. Seasoned Estheticians have many years of experience and use thier knowlege to help you with your needs.  If a treatment costs thousands a tip is still appreciated. You don't have to tip 20%, but a tip is appreciated for each treatment, even if it's just $20.

If you are happy with your treatment show them your appreciation.  They work very hard just like everyone else.
