Beach Mom that was a really nice story about your mother and your DH - thanks for sharing. I really liked that.

Re: Those Holiday Makeup Blockbuster Kits

This is so interesting! Would you believe that I had never purchased a palette of any kind until last year?

I grew up quite poor and all through hs, college (worked to pay my tuition) and early adulthood, the most I could afford was one drugstore lipstick, one mascara, one blush and one eyeshadow. That was it. Never wore anything else, and if I made a mistake and got a garish color...it would be a long time before I could get another one.

Even when I eventually could afford more makeup, I guess I was so in the habit of a scaled-down repertoire, that I still kept it simple.

Now---a different story. I think I am making up for lost time! I just seem to want to try everything, although my "window" for some of these products has passed!

So now I have the Mally palette (from TSV a while back), the Two Faced matte palette, and a whole slew of singles. I plan to try the holiday palettes this year!

Problem is---if I do not like the product, I still make myself use it. Old habits die hard!

Re: Those Holiday Makeup Blockbuster Kits

I believe it was the estée Lauder one, so much stuff! Shadows lipsticks liners you name it it was in there. My mother purchased it for my daughter for Hanukkah....when she was FIVE! I wanted to wring her neck! But Megan was thrilled. I purchased my first mega kit just this last holiday from Ulta. it was their store brand, buy 1, get the second one half off and since she's 28 now I gave the second one to my daughter lol. it's fun, it's good product, but I mainly use it for the shadows. I enjoy experimenting with the different colors

I love those kits. Some of my first makeup came from them. My mother bought them and gave my sister and I things.

I did very good this past Christmas and passed on them, but the year before I got all 3 Estee, Lancome and Arden{#emotions_dlg.blush}

Re: Those Holiday Makeup Blockbuster Kits

So funny you should mention this.

I bought a holiday blockbuster kit last year and didn't use it at all. Just gave it to a friend last week!

I think I get caught up in the price and pretty colors of these kits. I already have so many makeup products in the first place. I honestly don't have a need for such a big kit.

Like some, I find the quality in most to not be the same as the regular product line. This doesn't always stop me from buying but I'm often disappointed when I do. I've had the best luck with Tarte, but with the being sold I'll probably stop purchasing their's too.

The holiday eyeshadow palette from Laura Mercier this past Christmas was the BEST ever. Love all of the colors and use this palette at least 3x a week....waiting to see what this year will bring.

Re: Those Holiday Makeup Blockbuster Kits

I thought I was the only one! Last year I stalled and stalled until I finally missed out on purpose. Maybe if I like the colors I'll spring for one this year. Thank you all for your sweet reminiscences.

Re: Those Holiday Makeup Blockbuster Kits

The palettes I tend to use the least, like the Estee Lauder Portfolio, are the ones that include little pans of lipsticks. Since I reapply lipstick during the day, it isn't practical to carry the whole palette around with you! You'd think the cosmetic companies would have wised up by now and make the lipstick pans more portable. I have been thinking of just taking it to work so it will be right there when I need to freshen my pucker Kiss - but I have so much more makeup to use up first. What do you think ladies, time for another purge? Wink
