oh that's not a pretty sight lol really awesome to hear the CS is taking care of you, especially considering the high price of the gallons (even with the Q's price). i don't buy gallons either just because i like to have the various formulas (except if they were to offer SHP then i'd be right on that, right HD? lolWink)

I used to keep a bottle of Purpose cleanser in the shower. It had a pump dispenser. One day I noticed something different about it -- might have been the color, but I don't remember. I took off the top, and man, the stuff reeked.

I found out later that there's this warning on the package: "To maintain product integrity, do not store this container in a location where water may enter bottle."

Fortunately, I didn't suffer any ill effects.

OMG.... who would have thought of mold inside a hair product? Wonderful that the WEN company will help you with this... and good thing you figured it out. And THANK YOU for bringing it up as it will certainly be on my mind from now on.

A lot of beauty products state to keep in a cool dry place. I wonder if this issue happened due to the high humidity and fluctuations in temperature (hot shower) that happens in that environment? I'll be checking my 32 oz bottles that I keep in the shower. Hope I don't find anything yucky!

I've had a gallon of SAM for over two years and it's totally fine but I've never had room to keep it in the shower so it hasn't been subjected to all that water and temp changes.

Perhaps the gallons really aren't meant for everyone. We have to keep in mind that some people need to use a lot more Wen than others, some share with multiple family members, some just cleanse a lot more often, etc. Those people really need the gallons as the smaller bottles just go too fast for them.

While I like pump bottles in the shower, I think the pump may be part of the problem. I've had the same thing happen with SSC Glycolic cleanser and Proactiv body wash, both in larger pump bottles. There is mold in my shower and maybe the fact that the pump is an open, dark tube in a very damp environment is the issue.

If you have any other gallons, I would store them out of the bathroom and use them to fill much smaller bottles to use in the shower. I don't use WEN and have never bought any shampoo or conditioner in a gallon bottle ....I like a fresh bottle every month or so.

Well I will not be keeping the gallon in the shower ever again! I think you guys might be on to something with the humidity and temp changes. Definitely a learning experience, that's for sure. Thought I should mention, it was actually the Q's customer service that I called. Still cannot believe they offered to exchange. I thought they only carried the gallons in June? Maybe there are still some hanging around the warehouse but they are not featured?

I got my first gallon (TT) this past June and I have been putting the gallon in the shower with me daily and then moving it back to the linen closet after..kind of a pain, but I don't have room for it in my shower. I checked it this morning and was relieved to see no signs of mold Smiley Happy
