Re: Thinning Hair --- what works?

[ Edited ]

Many of the Nioxin products contain two specific kinds of sunscreen chemicals. There has been some studies done on UV exposure to hair follicles and what was found is that UV can cause follicles to go into their 'shedding' phase prematurely, leading to hair loss. So in an effort to stop the effects of damaging UV, Nioxin uses sunscreen to protect the scalp. It's their active ingredient found in most of their products.

Thanks for your reply.  I would feel better about using somethings such as you suggest.  Also,I wondered about the Joan Rivers powder.  I wouldn't know what color to use.  I was a blonde but am now letting it grow out. So, I am not salt and pepper --- gray and a very light brown--- still almost blonde.  What color do you think would work for me in this?  Thanks so much.

@AngelPuppy1   It was described as a product to match to your roots. Blonde is deceiving. I used that as "universal taupe" when my hair was still brunette. Too dark for you. If you're growing out your hair, aren't your roots more on the grey side than blonde?

I color my hair Dark Auburn and use JR powder in Red, and Toppik in auburn, works perfectly, if not just a tad too dark.

@freakygirl

Yes. The more lights it has, the better. Buy the one with the most lights which you can afford to purchase.

I would be willing to try Hair Max, but your scalp has to be free of all additives like Toppik, and I always have that in my hair.

Re: Thinning Hair --- what works?

WHY is your hair thinning in the first place?

Horomones?

Thyroid?

All these outside treatments are of little use unless

you fix the INSIDE.

When you get your new HM, be sure to use it exactly as they tell you. You may want to visit the HairMax website and read their FAQ page. It has some info there to help you use it correctly to get the best possible results.  Keep the thing plugged in at all times until ready to use it. That ensures the lights emit their intended energy and not less.

Re: Thinning Hair --- what works?

Go to your dermatologist and see if Spironolactone will work for you. I take it for acne and a side effect of this very old, old and well studied drug, is hair growth. Having very thick heavy hair to begin with, but now I have tons more hair. So much so that is is a pain to wash & takes forever to blow dry. Plus when it's hot, my hair/head is very uncomfortable.

Derms know about this drug and perhaps it can help you. No more adult acne!!! YES!!!! It's a very inexpensive drug. ~$20 for 3 months worth.
