Hi, My husband needs his teeth bleached. Recently I was at the drug store and saw a kit for around $45.00 that came with bleach and a light. Has anyone tried this and if so how well did it work? Thank you.

About 12 years ago I bit the bullet and got my teeth professionally bleached. At that time it was around $600 I think. Since then, I used Crest Whitening strips for a few years but recently switched to the Smileactives pens QVC sells. I love them! They last a long time, and I only need to use them once a week.

FYI...............your teeth will only get so white. Don't expect the look of 'lab white coat' teeth with any kind of bleaching. Those R veneers.
I use SuperSmile & it keeps them looking great.

I would avoid those. I'm a dental hygienist and have seen, over & over & over again, patients come in with burned gums, lips, tongue. Either that or not a great result. OTC "bleaching" gels are not the same strength as what we use in office, even if they say "professional strength". Plus, it's hard to keep the bleach on your teeth without it oozing out, even with a custom tray.
A lot of my patients use the Crest White Strips and are satisfied with the results. Maybe start there first? Oh, and most importantly, OTC or professional bleaching, only lightens natural tooth structure. So, fillings, crowns, veneers, etc. will not change.

I love the newer Crest strips that you leave on for an hour.

My dentist said - you can bleach the enamel on your teeth with a product like Crest Whitestrips that will remove things like tea and coffee stains but as we age the enamel gets thinner and thinner and when it does the yellow matter under it shows through and that is what gives the teeth the yellow appearance, and you can't bleach that away. all that can be done about that are veneers.

The crest strips do work and your teeth will be noticeably brighter. <<sigh>> at the price - but at least they work. You can find a lot of $7 and $10 dollar off coupons for the kits and they last quite a while.
I'd also recommend a whitening pre-rinse (generic brand works fine) and I like the 3D Crest whitening tooth paste as a daily maintenance thing after you use the strips.
Good luck to you
