My daughter is 15 years old and has been dealing with chest and back acne. We have tried Purity, Proactiv, Oxy and Noxema pads and nothing seems to work. Any suggestions? Thanks!

When my teenage son had that same problem on his back, I discovered he was never doing a thing to get his back thoroughly clean. A bath brush and a nubby washcloth with plenty of soap on it would be the first thing to try, if not being used already.

My daughter went through a terrible time with Acne at that age. Tried everything available at the time. Went to many Dermatologist's. Finally one recommended Accutane. It worked wonderfully and totally cleared it up. All of it. It was a very trying and unhappy time to say the least until she took Accutane. Google it, there are side effects. She had no side effects, but make sure you read the information and see if you feel this is right for your daughter. Good Luck. There may be something similar out there without the side effects, as this was many years ago when she took it.

When my teen niece went through this, a dermatologist told her to try the Murad basic acne system for a couple of weeks, before they discussed going the route of any oral prescriptions with potential side effects. (Prior to that, my niece had tried ProActiv and all the other drugstore systems out there.) Within a day or two, my niece noticed things getting better and her acne had almost totally cleared in 2-3 weeks, as I recall. She still uses that system every day -- several years after she started -- and her skin has remained clear. Not sure if that will help your teen, but perhaps it's worth a try.

Invest in a back scrubber or one of those net loufas on a stick. I also highly recommend Serious Skin Care's Glycolic Cleanser and other acne products on the other channel. They worked wonders for me. I found proactive to be too drying if I used it more than once per day.

We dealt with some teenage acne in our home and found a product called Nature's Cure to be very successful. It's a 2-pronged approach; an oral homeopathic supplement tablet (I think there may have been one for AM and one for PM) and a topical cream that contains benzoyl peroxide. The kits are packaged in 30-day supplies, are marketed male, and female, and are very inexpensive. You can find it at Walmart, drugstore dot com, Amazon and some larger supermarkets. The company also has a topical spray for body acne. I hope you'll look into this company and read the info on their site.
Another product one of our kids tried was African Black Soap for back acne, but it was super drying and made them very itchy and uncomfortable.

Teen acne is usually hormone related. One of my best HS friends was placed on BCP for her acne and it totally worked, but her case was severe.

Try Paula's Choice. They have some BHA products that might clear it up and unlike BP products the BHA won't fade clothing. I have used her BHA products on my back with good results.
