Tarte's "Tartlette In Bloom" Palette

This morning decided to use the Tartlette In Bloom palette because I hadn't used it in ages.  Bought it about a year ago and have used it a couple of times. Well this morning I had a reaction to the shimmer shades.  My eyes became irritated and a little itchy.  The irritation almost felt like it was stinging or burning.  It wasn't enough at the beginning for me to be to concerned and thought it would go away.  Nope, that didn't happen.

In looking at the palette it looks like I tried the shimmers before but I don't recall when.  Maybe thats why I have steered clear of the palette all this time.  Anyway. there are enough mattes in it that I'll still be able to use it.  This incident makes me hesitant to try any of the other shimmers in my Tarte palettes.  I know the mattes don't bother me.

Had to take my eye makeup off because it became so uncomfortable.

I stopped buying their shadows when they began adding fragrance to them.

Originally, they had no noticeable fragrance.

@JudyL , It's strange that you would have a reaction to the shimmer shades and not the matte ones. It must be the one ingredient that provides the shimmer.

Is it possible you could have a reaction to any shimmer eyeshadow , or is it just the Tarte?

@teganslaw - I thought about that too.  I don't know about any shimmer shade.  I'm not a big shimmer person so it wouldn't surprise me if I hadn't tried others in different palettes and just worn mattes.  Within minutes of taking off my eye makeup, my eyes felt so much better and the stinging/burning feeling was gone. Once my eyes have a chance to recover, I will try a different palette in a day or two and see if its just Tarte's shimmers or all shimmers.

The other Tarte palette I have that has some shimmers is the Juicy palette but it has quite a few mattes so if I can't wear the shimmers I can still use that palette.  Then I have another palette that is all mattes.  I compared the mattes in the all matte palette to the Bloom palette and there were dupes and ones very similar so have taken the Bloom palette out of my makeup collection.

@Desertdi - thanks for posting a pic.  I used the "Funny Girl" shimmer and the "Firecracker" shimmer.  Won't do that again.

Maybe try a swatch on the side of your neck to see if you get a reaction

I agree with @monicakm

I'd definitely try a patch or swatch test on other areas before putting this on my eyes again.

IMO, this is one of the most ignored e/s palettes out there.  I have the original palette

Tarte Tartelette Juicy Eyeshadow Palette Review & Swatches - Musings of a Muse

and I must admit I kinda ignore it too.  But, that's because I have a zillions of palettes Smiley Surprised  I'm going to put it on top and force myself to use it right after my next two looks (of trying) to dupe 4 shadows from DM.  Two in the upper right corner and two in the lower left corner.  I'm 99% sure I've got those colors.

Re: Tarte's "Tartlette In Bloom" Palette

@JudyL the skin on your eyelids is the thinnest skin on your face and it's extremely susceptible to irritation and allergies. After being allergic to random eyeshadows for months I finally figured out what I was allergic to, it turned out to be talc.

Mica is the most common ingredient in all shimmer eyeshadows but it's usually not very allergy producing, but because of its sharp edges it can be an strong irritant.  Testing the eyeshadows on other areas of your body won't help because the skin is too thick. I would look at the first five ingredients in the eyeshadows that bothered you today and see which ingredients they have in common.  If it's Mica  you're probably being irritated by it, if a common ingredient is something else it could be a true allergy.

Once you have an allergy it will not go away, especially on the thin delicate skin of the eyelids.
