Tarte Eyeliners (gel versus amazonian clay) I am confused!

I bought a Tarte gel eyeliner(in pencil form) from ebay. Guess I was thinking this was the same as the Amazonian Clay. It is awful! Just globs when I try to put it on. I am assuming this is different than the Amazonian Clay one? I need something to use for the summer...usually use Estee Lauder DoubleWear.
