Re: ☆☆Talc???!!!☆☆☆

You have to look up the specific cases where people have perished from using talc.

To me, this is cry wolf that makes one afraid of their own shadow.

Of course, one must be sensible in using things, especially in spray cans. So, I don't know if the product you referenced is an aerosol or not.

My DM has been using talc forever and she is a physically healthy 92!

The only thing I've read about talc is that using baby powder in the genital area increases the chance of ovarian cancer. I think that this is pretty widely accepted at this point. Breathing in any fine powder if not a good practice, but I don't believe there has been any reported cases of lung cancer correlated to talc (other than maybe talc miners that are exposed all day long). So that connection is undetermined.

I'd personally use the powder and might not repurchase if there was a ton of flyaway powder. I'm not buying face powders with talc personally because I don't want to risk it, but I'm not throwing away the ones I own. Just using them up and not repurchasing.

Edited to add that I also do not prefer the look of talc in face powder....contributing to my decision not to repurchase....

As mentioned, the only possible concern is powder used in the genital area. Other than that, it is perfectly harmless and, IMO, is a decent ingredient.

As a skincare ingredient, talc can be irritiating to some people.   From what I've read, it's usually the talc in the Tatcha exfoliating powder that causes some to have a bad reaction.  If you don't have sensitive skin to begin with, I wouldn't worry about the hair powder.  Using a scented talc after bathing is a nice treat, just be careful to avoid "key places".

As JeanLouseFinch said, it can be irritating to some skin types (sensitive or acne prone, for example). There's also the possibility of asbestos or asbestiform fibers, which are extremely toxic. Here's what it says about talc on the Environmental Working Group's Skin Deep website:

"Talc is a powdered native, hydrous magnesium silicate sometimes containing a small portion of aluminum silicate. Talc can be contaminated with asbestos fibers, posing risks for respiratory toxicity and cancer. Studies by the National Toxicology Panel demonstrated that cosmetic-grade talc free of asbestos is a form of magnesium silicate that also can be toxic and carcinogenic."

Talc is a natural ingredient and, yes, can be contaminated with asbestos. But cosmetic talc products have been free of asbestos since the 1970s.
