Taking Borage Oil for Acne -- It Totally Works

Just wanted to mention this, as I know many come here with acne related questions and problems. Taking Borage Oil supplements is one of a few things I've done to combat my acne (often cystic), and for me, it absolutely works.

FinnyMinny, how did you come up with the idea to try that? It is something you read somewhere and if so could you please link the source? Also, how much would you recommend and how long did it take to clear. I know someone who gets the cystic acne and I'm sure she will be willing to try that. Sounds very interesting. Thanks!

Re: Taking Borage Oil for Acne -- It Totally Works

I did the research quite a while ago (like 2 summers ago, I think) after reading an article about it on xojane dot com -- certainly not a reliable source, but it prompted me to do my own research. As I said, that was quite a while ago, so I don't remember the reliable sources that convinced me to try it. But I also read really encouraging reviews on amazon, which is where I bought mine. I wouldn't feel comfortable recommending a particular dosage without re-doing that old research. It takes a while for the zits that are brewing in your skin to develop and heal, but I'd say that when I first started using it it was maybe 2-4 weeks before new ones stopped forming (though the in-progress ones still had to run their course). But that's just me.

I started this thread because I just recently started taking it again. Last year I had great improvement from taking Borage Oil, and then when I was getting ready to move in the summer I stopped replacing my used up products so I wouldn't have to drag them cross country with me. Borage Oil was something that I just forgot to start buying again after moving. I can be a real dummy sometimes -- lol! Anyway, recently I was searching my old Amazon orders for something else, and I came upon the Borage Oil. I can't believe I forgot to keep taking it! I've really been struggling to figure out why I've started getting zits again in the past few months when last year I had the problem completely under control. (If anything, I'm taking better care of my skin this year by using more natural products with less experimenting due to impulse skin care purchases.) Anyway, I realized that stopping the Borage Oil is the only real thing I've changed. I'm so glad that I figured this out!

Thank you for responding so quickly. I do know that borage oil is good for the skin. I take it everyday along with some other oils and supplements. But this is the first time I heard about it for acne. It make a lot of sense to me!

Yes my BFF took it and/or Evening Primrose oil (whichever was cheaper at the time she went to replenish) and both helped her acne tremendously. And safer than the antibiotics she was on. I believe she read it was recommended by Dr. Weil for acne at least 20 years ago?

Which of the brands on Amazon do you order? Natures Way, Now, & Barleans are the ones that showed up when I searched. TY for the post

One more thing to add- if using borage or evening primrose (or black current seed) for acne, it will usually take several weeks to months before you will see an improvement so you MUST be patient!

Why? There are many effective, legitimate acne treatments.

some peoples' acne doesn't respond to the acne treatments or they want to try a more natural method for controlling it. I know my friend tried everything out there for her acne and the only thing that kind of helped was antibiotics, which she did not want to take long term. She did laser treatments, topicals, etc and nothing worked as well as the oils have. The only thing she didn't do was Accutane because it wasn't worth the risks involved, especially because she wanted to have kids.
