Violann, that's really interesting.  Health sure does affect hair growth and loss.  When I'm unwell my hair definitely shows it.  Happy to hear that you're doing better!  Smiley Happy

KC it's okay that you haven't shaved in a long time, you need all the hair you can get to use up your never-ending stash of shampoo!  heehee.  Smiley Happy

I'm with the OP. I had my underarm hair lasered off about 6 years ago. I found waxing that area too painful so after I had my legs done, I had the underarms done at the same time. It didn't take long at all.

Re: THIS IS NOT BEAUTIFUL

[ Edited ]

Now that I am in my early 50s, issues like underarm hair occupy very little space in my head. When I was in my 20s and 30s I was religious about keeping my legs and underarms shaved.  I still shave, but I am not nearly as worried about it.

I actually like the pictures of the women above with the exception of Madonna's photo. It looks like she is doing something for effect.

I would never consider having underarm hair. I am in the gym regularly and rarely see women sporting underarm hair. Just the idea of the body odor possibilties tell me I HAVE to shave them! I epilated my legs for years and then had them lasered. Love having super smooth legs. Bikini lines are a whole seperate thing , very sensitive skin, trims only, as much as I would to wax my bikini line I would just end up with those awful bumps bumps and more red bumps!!! Ouch! I find hair ones head is the most attractive!

Its okay, its very much accepted in Europe and other countries.  USA seems to dislike all hair on the body other than on the head.

Intetrestingly, Asians have very little body hair.  I think its genetic.  Native Americans either.  My brother would try hard to grow a mustache or lately, a beard, and it just doesn't fill in well so he has given up!  I'll always remember the days as a teen he tried a mustache and he kept borrowing my mascara to fill it in and make it darker!  I still giggle over that one!

That's because all of their gorgeous thick healthy gleamy hair is on their heads, LOL  8)

I recall reading that women in the U.S. didn't start shaving until the 1920s or so, after the advent of silent movies.  It said that by removing body hair, it made the women more "child like" much to the delight of men who enjoyed the company of little girls.  I'm trying to phrase this as politely as possible.  Think about it - most young girls don't have body hair.

Body hair removal is something we've become conditioned to as normal - at least in our culture.  Now health professionals are finding that Brazilian waxing and such can lead to infections because of a lack of protective hair.

Who knows what our society will be doing 100 years from now - LOL.

NC BANDWAGON: I agree with you.....I've mentioned before I'm an experienced RN. I remember one weirded night at work; on the surgical unit, an OB/GYN's was there and somehow the issue came up. The doc said that a little bit at least is important to help prevent bacteria, and other icky things. Especially downstairs. And of of course the possible bacteria from the wax is a concern, depending on the quality and cleanliness of the wax.

Nasty! Totally unfeminine! Getting my underarms waxed every month makes me feel like a new woman!
