Re: TGIF Beauties! What Did You Use Up this Week 10/20?

Happy weekend to all!

This week I used up:

CeraVe Skin Renewing Day Cream with SPF30.  This was too heavy for my face so I used it on my neck.  I like many CeraVe products, but won't repurchase this one.

Kirkland Citrus body wash.  I have used this for years and really like it.  Had one in my stash.

Tossed:

Neutrogena Healthy Lengths mascara because it was over 3 months old.  This mascara is okay but I have a few others in my stash that I want to try.

I finally used up a bottle of philosophy miracle worker foundation. It lasted over a year.

Since QVC doesn’t carry it I went t my local Ulta and bought a replacement.

Oh my goodness, a hoarder? My mother was and still is to some extent. She lives in a nursing home now so she doesn't have access to as much, but she tries to find things to hang onto.

Expiration dates, that's another good one. She always felt that those dates were a bunch of nonsense. You wouldn't have believed what she had when we cleaned out her apartment.

I am just the opposite.  Plus your last sentence says it all Smiley Happy

This week I used up:

-2 skin care samples.  One was a Clinique moisturizing gel, the other an Avon Anew cream.  Both are nice but neither one was something I would purchase.

-the little bottle of conditioner that came with my hair dye.

-a bottle of Thayer's witch hazel astringent.  Replaced with same.

I tossed:

-2 Avon eyeshadows that were old and looked patchy after application.

-a scented Avon body lotion that was probably incredibly old (another thing my mom didn't want and gave to me).

That's it for this week.  Enjoy the weekend!!

@Leeny  My mom hoards things like that and cannot bring herself to put them in the trash.  So I tell her that maybe I can use it, and I will take it home and see if it's still any good.  So I'm helping her clear out her clutter a little bit.  And I haven't lied to her, because I have told her I will throw it out if it's no good.  And if it was something that was still good, I would go ahead and find a way to use it myself.  But I knew that lotion was probably from the 90's or something, so...no.

I think she knows that I'm pretty reluctant to throw things away that still have life left in them, so giving something to me is her best bet when it comes to decluttering but not wasting anything.  LoL

I will occasionally remind her of certain things when we are going through some of her items.  For instance, the purpose of perfume is to make you smell good, so perfume that no longer smells good has no purpose.  That is the sort of thing that is obvious to most people, but when you have hoarding tendencies you find reasons to keep things like that.  So I remind her that if a makeup item doesn't look good on her, she should toss it, because makeup is supposed to make you look better.  I also try to remind her that things expire and bacteria grow in them, but that seems to be a much harder sell.  ::shrug::  What can ya do?  Mom's gonna do what she wants.

@Leeny  I'm hesitant to call her a hoarder, as most of the rooms in her house are not hard to walk around in, but she does have those tendencies...as do I.  I think I try a little harder to fight mine though.  Plus I don't have money to blow like she does, so a lot less comes into my home.

The worst part of her house, IMO, is her refrigerator.  There is no way a bottle of bleu cheese dressing that expired in 2012 is still good.  And how does she decide when bleu cheese has gone bad?  By smelling it?  It smells the same when it's bad as it does when it's good. Smiley Very Happy

Re: TGIF Beauties! What Did You Use Up this Week 10/20?

@mistriTsquirrel----OMG. I can't believe it. When I read your reply it was like I had written it. This is no joke.

When my mom had to go into a nursing home and we had to clean out her apt. and of course the fridge. She had a bottle of dressing in there from 2009. She went into the home in 2013. Now, what she was doing.. to this bottle of bleu cheese dressing, was adding the ends of other bottles to it because she didn't want to throw out any of the dressings. After all, they were all so good.  So who knows how old this stuff was.

The first thing she told me at the nursing home was---Don't throw that dressing away!!! I was blown out of the water. So it's like your mom and my mom are on that same strange way of thinking about--- bleu cheese dressing. UGH!

I’ve been writing the date I’ve opened a bottle in our fridge and I put a piece of tape over it so the date doesn’t blur, when touching things with wet hands.

Happy Friday Beauties,

It was a slow week for me. I didn't use up anything. What did yu use up?

@joseygirl  Hi. I haven’t really used up products, but putting some aside and purchasing new, different ones to replace. Switching out powder NARS orgasm blush for Stick one (skin older & drier)...also changing powder bronzer to new Trish cream one in a stick...universal shade. Putting pale, pinky/beige lippies to back of drawer and replaced w/ deeper, brighter and rosier tones. Instead of just tightlining w/ black pencil, started lining lid (top& bottom) w/ grey, dark purple or brown pencil for more definition....Whew! Lots of changes!

Skincare: brought out my richer creams w/ drop of oil for night (when skin feels more dry) and exfoliating less. After using up my Philosophy Shower Gels...that’s it! They’re drying out my skin and cost is ridiculous...think Dove, etc. are better. Also not replacing their Miccrodelivery Triple Acid Peel Pads...too expensive and do nothing. Using up Purity to clean makeup brushes and cleansing makeup off with B.B. Cleansing Oil.

Every season I re-evaluate my makeup and skincare.

That's a good idea, @JustJazzmom.  That really makes the most sense, since the clock starts ticking whenever you open the bottle (assuming it was not expired when you opened it...LoL).

 @Leeny

I noticed that my mom has been writing dates on the condiment packets she gets from fast food places.  Not sure why, since she doesn't seem to care about expiration dates that much.  Did your mom do anything like that?  It gave me a good chuckle when I saw it.

No, I can't say she did that one with the packets from fast food restaurants. She could careless about the dates. She never paid attention to them. If it smelled ok, then it was ok.
