We just got a letter from our HOA dictating the new rules they pass after all the snowbirds go north for the summer. About 2/3 of the residents are snowbirds so the HOA goes on a power trip when we leave them each year. Anyway the one that just set my teeth on edge was - EVERYONE MUST WASH OFF ANY AND ALL SUNSCREENS BEFORE ENTERING THE POOL AREA. This is in Florida folks!!! By what fantasy do they think people can use the pool and not wear sunscreen? It will not be the first time we have had to rein them in when we get back but in the meanwhile I certainly hope no one is going to be sunbathing without sunscreen in the Florida summer sun. I am not even a huge user of sunscreen but , heck, even I know you have to wear it when you are in a pool, esp in a Florida pool and double esp in a Fl. pool in the summer.

You may ask why these idiots were elected to start with - well, only those who stay 12 months are eligible for the board and that leaves a very small pool of residents, many of which are very elderly and disabled. In other words - these goofballs are the only ones who ran for the positions. Basically in Oct when we are all back we will pass around a bunch of petitions and overturn what they have done - but in the meanwhile.....

So how will they know who is wearing sunscreen and who isn't? How are they going to know whether or not you wash it off? Are they going to follow you into the pool and see if any ""oil"" floats on the water?

Well, they would certainly know if you reapplied it after being in the water. It did not say in the pool it said the pool area.

That's a decision that's medically unsound. I'd ignore it.

You know, I have heard of this before. The pool that was in my neighborhood HOA in AZ had the same rule. Basically, you had to "shower" before you got in. There was a little showerhead near the pool area..We just ran under it and then jumped in the pool.

If it sets your teeth on edge, why don't you call and ask them their reasoning...

Our POA has the same rule but no one pays any attention to it. I have also seen signs at hotel/resort pools that say the same thing so it isn't that unusual.

So will they post Sunscreen Police at the pool area to ensure everyone follows the rule? What's the penalty for ignoring the rule?

I shudder to think how they catch & penalize people who p in the pool

I'm surprised other people have heard of this rule in their area. My jaw dropped when I read that. No sunscreen? In Florida?! Sorry, I'm not willingly giving myself skin cancer for an HOA rule.
