Suggestions on a skin lightner

The lady that gave me a facial today suggested I could use a lightening cream on my face to reduce brown spots and freckles. I have never used one before. Do these really work? Does anyone have any suggestions? I have fair, dry, sensitive skin with rosacea. Thanks!
