I have a cheap one and I need to use my other hand to get it to close properly. When I'm looking at it and it's closed, I can see that the inner edge of the plates fit together and are open towards the tip, so when I'm using it, I have to use my other hand to pinch the tips together. The plates do not float. The inside edge of the plates snag my hair....Argh!
I just bought a more expensive one with floating plates and the tips close together with a slight gap at the inside end of the plates, but with a little pressure, they lie flat together. I don't need to use my other hand, like the first. It does not snag my hair.
The question I'm asking: Should the plates lie flat together without any pressure being applied? or is this a function of the floating plates?
