Thank you for replying.

My splits are vertical.  I have also tried tea tree oil and almond oil, with no improvement.  I will look at boitin and fish oil capsules after seeing these mentioned.

Thanks again.

The product that cured my splitting and peeling nails is Sally Hansen Moisture Rehab (from the grocery store).   Thanks to a recommendation from a poster on this board, I discovered my nails didn't need strengtheners or vitamins, just a moisturizer.

Hi ladies.  I am looking for suggestions in dealing with splits in our nails.  I had one nail with a split for a few years.  I have tried nail glue but didn;t get good results - within a few days the split is back.  I got a manicure and had the nail dipped (using the gel method) but that lasted less than 5 days.

I recently purchased a WHISH 2 piece kit from QVC and have not seen results.

Just last week another nail split.

I have Perfect Formula items I use regularly and have tried a few nail repair formulas (oxygen based) but nothing has worked.

What do you use for splits???

Thank you for any suggestions.

@Denise in PA   My nails used to take a beating with lots of handwashing and over the last year....well, we all notice dry hands/nails. I use Sally Hansen nail hardener. If I get a split, I tear off a tiny piece of kleenex and separate into a single thin sheet to fit over the split. I glue it over the split with nail glue and a wooden stick. When it dries, it gets 2 coats of Sally Hansen. You can barely see it.

My personal opinion is that gells, dips, etc. further dry out and damage the nails. It's a vicious cycle and you have dificulty getting your natural nails healthy again.

My answer to a lifetime of splitting layers and tears at the sides is TIPS.  And you don't have to use it twice a day.  I use once or twice a week and have to keep my nails filed down.  I appear to be allergic to any polish or treatment product that hardens on the nail. A couple months of polish and I'm right back where I started.
