Someone Gave Me The Nicest Compliment

Yesterday morning I was shopping at Target. I was in the makeup department when a lady appears around the corner. She said "I just want to tell you how beautiful you look. I've passed by you twice and I said to myself if I see her again I'm going to tell her she is beautiful." Needless to say this made my day, my week, my month, my year! I always take pride in my appearance. No matter where I go I always wear makeup and a nice maxi dress. But I really needed to hear this because my self esteem took a beating in December of last year. I met a guy that I went to high school with for lunch. In high school he was the quarterback and he went on to play in the NFL. He and I did not date. In fact he did not even know I existed. We started communicating on Facebook and decided to meet for lunch. I had not seen him in 37 years. We met at a nice restaurant and chatted about school for a few minutes when all at once he said "I can't do this. You are fat and unattractive!" Well, I was totally shocked. I immediately got up and left him sitting there. This ordeal has left my self esteem shattered. Anyway, my heartfelt thanks to that lady in Target.

Well, I'm not surprised when you tell mehe played for the NFL. Professional athletes are almost always arrogant and narcissistic. I would suggest meeting someone for coffee first where you can make a quick exit if things don't go well.

What a nice compliment! I'm glad that happened for you after your awful experience.

And you didn't tell him he didn't look so hot himself???? What a jerk! Obviously he's got a problem - if a total stranger takes the time to compliment you in a store, that says a lot, and I'd be walking on a cloud smiling away too ..... good for you!

I'm really happy that you got the self esteem booster you needed, especially after what happened in Dec. If I live to be a hundred I will never understand the need to hurt someone like that man hurt you.

I'm glad you got up and left, too bad you didn't throw your drink in his face before you did.

What a rude, obnoxious, hideous jerk he is!!! Totally full of himself. He's probably used to stupid young hotties throwing themselves at him because he was a football player. No substance. Don't let him get to you. And what does he look like now? Not that it matters!

I'm so happy that a stranger took a moment to tell you the truth about how you really look. Take it to heart, and ignore the clods out there.

Lady Bug, sounds like he's still stuck in high school - I know it hurt, but remember he was a jerk in school and nothing's changed. The compliment by the lady in a Target is the sincere, true one.

Re: Someone Gave Me The Nicest Compliment

I have a hard time believing that any guy would come right out and say these hurtful comments to a woman, especially pretty much being a stranger to them and someone they have not seen in a long time. Sorry that happened to you. I do have to ask though if you were communicating on facebook where there are recent photos of you why was it a big surprise to him when you met for lunch what you looked like. If he saw your page and didn't like what he saw I wonder why he even agreed to meet up with you. Very odd.

It is always a thrill to get a compliment. I am glad this lady made your day.

I'm appalled but not surprised. Please stop for a moment TODAY and erase the idiot from every conscious thought. So glad you left HIM - I bet that's not the only type of experience he's had with being walked out on!
