Gosh---so sorry to hear this. I find the safest way for me to style my hair is to wash, apply styling cream and let it air dry. Then, later or the next morning, I use my much loved Jilbere Porceline Ceramic ionic roller and leave in for three minutes. I take them out and it looks like I used a styling wand on my hair---but no damage and so much faster.
At night I use a stretchy band doubled or tripled and pull my hair into a bun. My hair is fine and thin and I am afraid of heating wands, Instylers, etc.

I perm AND color my fine hair and feel that is better than using a heat-styling tool on it. However, when it finally grows out I end up having to use a straight iron on my bangs for a few months before I perm again. I think heat protection products are needed when using these type of products. Most probably contain silicones which protect hair from heat styling. Also, if the heat styling tool has temperature settings, turn it down to the lowest setting to achieve the look.

While it didn't do much for my hair, I used it to get a flip and it helped a bit. However, after a couple of months I noticed breaks on my ends and up the shaft of my hair where I used the Perfector. Thank goodness I never used it near my scalp. I have fine hair to my shoulders that was always healthy and never colored treated and I let it dry naturally and now it is split and broken. I have had to cut my hair shorter and it will be months and months before the damage grows out. For me this was a damaging product. I would love to get it off the market. Just a warning to those with fine hair.
OK, this statement gets to me every time I see it! I'm sorry the Perfector damaged your hair, as well as the hair of some others here. Fine...just don't use it. But you "would love to get it off the market"????? Lots of people love it! Why would you want it taken away from them? Post a one star review and tell your experience so others can choose for themselves.
I've never used the Perfector, just FYI. My problem is with anyone who has a bad experience with something wanting it "taken off the market". If that was to happen, there would be no beauty products/tools whatsoever for us to buy...because NOTHING works for EVERYONE!

What did you use on your hair prior to the perfector to get a flip or curl it?

I've been using the perfector for quite a while on my fine hair and I love it. Have you thought that maybe the problem is the combination of your hair with the perfector and not the perfector alone?
You know, not every tool is for everybody. Just because your hair doesn't like it doesn't mean it's a problem for everyone.
It sounds to me that if the perfector "didn't do much" on the lowest setting, maybe you have dry hair to begin with. Adding heat would just dry it out more and increase the breakage. Did you try any products to add moisture?

I'm sorry to hear the Perfector doesn't work for you. I have the original Perfector and have been using it for a long time. I have fine stick straight short layered hair and it gives me a bit of curl and body. I really like it and would buy another one if my current Perfector died.

Hello, MFitz.
I'm sorry about what happened to your hair. Give the heat tools a break for a long, long time. Using heat tools for the hair too much stresses out the hair. In the meantime, try using Nick Chavez' Velvet Mesquite Serum. It won't make your hair grow faster, but it says it'll help repair hair that's been stressed out from thermal appliances.

I have fine and thin hair and haven't had this problem. Try using a heat spray.
