When Mally first came to the Q, she always instructed the models to silently go "Ma Ma Ma" with their lips after applying any lip product.

They smack and smoosh for effect. A lot of people do it. That said back in the golden olden days when I was taught how to put on makeup the models told me not to smack my lips together, but rather lightly kiss a tissue. To this day that's what I do. The method leaves that lipcolor/gloss in place and blended flawlessly.

It depends for me. If it's lipgloss I smoosh and lipstick I kiss a tissue (love how that sounds). I think how we apply lipstick could be related to our age or what we saw our mothers do.

Yes, I remember being somewhere around first grade, and making a little book of lipstick blotters for my Mom as a school project. 1960's.

I apply my lip gloss or lipstick all over my lips and then gently rub or "smack" my lips together. However, there are times when I just apply my gloss and dab it with my fingers to even it out a bit.

I find that too much smooshing or smacking will lessen the amount of color that shows.

One reason I may smoosh is to get a less intense color. It's just a way of depositing less color on your lips.

Sometimes I feel like a smoosh, sometimes I don't!

My mother always blotted.

I blot when I wear a matte lipstick.
