My tween daughter is at that stage of breaking out. I feel for her and I'm trying to help as best as I can. In my day, it was Noxzema and Clearasil. I was at Target the other day and felt overwhelmed at all the "new" stuff out there now. I saw a light mask, a patch, a wand type mechanism, etc. I'd also like to get her some type of makeup to make those spots not so noticable, but again overwhelmed. Any suggestions/advice is greatly appreciated. TIA.

@ScrapHappy I would take your daughter for a dermatology visit first. They can often recommend treatments and advice that will help to heal blemishes and prevent scaring. If that’s not an option, check Proactiv Acne treatment for teens (Google where available). As far as makeup, try to stay with all natural products, mineral makeups w/ few additives and/or any hypoallergenic makeup like Clinique. Hope this info helps.

There are other lines out there for less money that work just as well as Proactiv. I would start with one of those kits & if it does not help I would see a dermatologist.
What may have drawn you to the Proactiv line is that you get a complete skin care system—cleanser, toning solution, treatment lotion and, in some cases, a treatment mask. This was a new idea when Proactiv first hit the market, but now other acne skin care lines also offer complete OTC acne treatment kits. Proactiv just does a better job of marketing their product.
You can find these kits sold at your local drug store. Some reasonably priced skin care lines that offer multi-step acne treatment systems include:
If you really want to save yourself some money, you can build your own OTC acne treatment regimen. Part of what we love about complete acne treatment kits is that everything is put together for you. But you're paying for that convenience.
Choose these products:
It doesn't matter which brands you pick, you can even mix and match brands if you like. Your DIY regimen can be just as effective as any pre-packaged acne treatment kit.
You can also add a medicated mask with some of the same ingredients.
For makeup I would try Bare Minerals.

I highly recommend Proactive for her skincare. It’s the best available IMO. I’ve seen it do wonders on my friends teenagers.
I would recommend Clinique for makeup. It’s light & clean. It doesn’t clog pores. It’s been around for many years .

Back in the day, one of my sisters got bad scaring from acne. I always took my kids to the dermatologist the instant things went downhill so they never would. I would recommend that route. It is sad to see kids that are not being treated.

i had a case of adult cystic acne in my 30's .... Proactive is absolutely
fabulous ... but beware it does bleach out your towels ...

Neutrogena, Clinique, and Paula's Choice all have fantastic acne lines. Salicylic acid is my favorite ingredient for acne and I really like the Paula's Choice 2% BHA lotion for the salicylic acid. It works to prevent both blackheads and other blemishes. I'm also a huge fan of Origins Out of Trouble mask. It makes a great spot treatment for... spots.
And remember that less is more with acne and skin irritation. The first instinct is to buy all the things and scrub away, but that often upsets the skin's mantle and causes more irritation and acne. My friend's son uses the Neutrogena acne mask with the blue light therapy and he thinks it really works. (And my friend reports it makes his son feel cool.)
I also recommend a visit to a demotologist. I used Retin-A for acne as a teenager and it really helped. I'm thankful my mom suggested the dermatologist even when my acne wasn't very bad. I feel like it prevented me from getting severe acne and I got through my teen years pretty easily.

Take your daughter to a dermatologist, sometimes what appears to be acne is another condition & OTC products can make the breakouts worse. Skin problems can take a teens confidence so don't wait....best wishes to her.

I also agree with someone that said .. excess scrubbing and drying
it out with procucts can sometimes make it worse ....

@Big Joanie, any product with benzoyl peroxide will cause bleaching.
