Does anyone still use shea butter?  Josie Maran seems to have an exclusive with her ARGAN OIL originating  with the story about the elderly Moroccan woman with the gorgeous skin.  Before that story took on a life of its own, shea butter was sold as a good skin treatment.  It had a similar story as I recall; something about coming from a karite tree somewhere in Africa.  I have used some shea butter products from the L'Occitane brand and have been pleased.  Anyone else still like shea butter?  If you have used both shea butter and ARGAN OIL, how do they compare?

I have used Perlier's shea butter products for about 10 years and will not stop.  For 64 my skin is in pretty good shape and I thank shea butter for that.  I tried Argan oil when it first came out and can't remember why I didn't continue with it, but after the first purchase never re-ordered.

@maximillian ,Love shea butter products, my favorite is L'Occitane, but are a bit pricey, I use Dove Shea Butter & Vanilla soap and also Jergens Shea Butter lotion is really good as a cheaper alternative.

Yes, Shea Butter does come from Africa, not sure how it is grown, but I have been told it stinks and they really have  to add frangrance to it, but glad they do!

There are hundreds of shea butter based products in mainstream beauty brands and thousands when you include the little guys.  Like argan oil, shea is only as good as it's processing and formulation.  When well done, both are excellent moisturizers for the skin head to toe.  I get outstanding results from both.  I use argan and shea products from Josie Maran, Shea Terra, Perlier, L'Occitane.

Shea Butter will usually be in a cream, lotion, or balm.  Argan can be oil, but also in a cream, lotion, or balm.  My opinion is for me this is one of those six to on/half dozen to another cases. I simply can't declare one to be better than the other based on my usage experience and repeat purchase of products containing both ingredients.

I love, use and gift Shea Terra's Nilotica Shea Butter. It's lovely and the proceeds go to help women who were enslaved in Uganda.

@maximillian, I forgot to mention that there are some products which contain argan oil and shea butter as ingredients.  One such cream is Josie Maran's Body Butter.

I believe shea butter comes from the shea nut tree in Africa.
