Re: Share Your Experience with Minoxidil?

I use the women's formula (Walmart brand), and I don't have any problems with it running. I very lightly squeeze the dropper while running it from my hairline back about 4 inches in 1 inch passes from ear to ear. It takes less than a minute to apply, and I only use it once per day at night. I've been using it for about 9 months. I've had regrowth with it - not downy hair either, regular fine hair like the normal hair on my head. I do notice more baby hair on my face - and actually my whole body, the medicine will get into your blood stream - but it's not terribly noticeable (I epilate it from my face). The worst part for me is that is causes a terribly itchy scalp. So itchy that I have to use Nizoral shampoo 2 - 3 x per week. I recently started using Wen, and I am hoping that will help with the itchiness. Rogaine solution is mostly alcohol, and my scalp was already kind of dry, so the Rogaine really irritates it. I skip a day occasionally to give my scalp a rest. Good luck! I hope it works for you!

Re: Share Your Experience with Minoxidil?

Hearts, which one are you using? I haven't gotten any stickiness from Rogaine for Women or the Target version of the same.

Also, you can't squeeze the dropper hard. You squeeze it just hard enough to allow a few drops of the product onto your scalp and rub it in. It should go directly on your scalp, not your hair.

I've been using Rogaine for Women for close to two years, so I don't have bald spots anymore. I have to put it on my hair that has grown in. Those areas aren't hard to comb or style.

Honny: I use the Walmart brand 2% liquid. I try not to squeeze the dropper too hard. I think part of my issue is that I have a super short pixie cut with layers, and when I try to rub in the solution, it just smears all over my little short hairs and makes them all gross and sticky. I am going to keep using it, because my scalp is showing through now. This is all so depressing.

I use Costco brand mens foam 2x per day. It definitely helps and as someone else said about a lifetime commitment...so is deodorant, brushing teeth, flossing, etc. The liquid made my head look like I was a kitten groomed by it's mama cat...lol.The foam goes right in.

Hearts, are the short hairs your new growth from the minoxidil? If so, that can't be avoided.

Maybe try creating a part? in the problem area? I'm going to try that tonight. I have a short cut also.

You're right, it is very depressing. Men can cut off all of their hair when they start to bald. They still look sexy. We don't have that option.

I'm happy to have my hair back!

I have a thyroid issue and need to use this because I have lost so much hair, but you aren't supposed to use it if you have thyroid issues! DH got a allergic reaction,he immediately broke out in a rash! I hope it works for you!

autumn, that makes sense. If there is an underlying issue for the cause of hair loss, Rogaine won't work until that issue is resolved.

Maren, Rogaine doesn't change hair color. I'm about 5% grey and Rogaine hasn't caused any color change. My new hairs grow in as my natural color.

Thanks! I really didn't want to go the Rograine route -- just seemed like a big step -- but realize I have to try it. THEN I thought -- boy, would I be mad if I lost my white hair! So you've encouraged me! :-)

Maren, I'm glad! Please keep in mind, Rogaine isn't something that you try. The results are slow and steady, and you have to use it twice a day, every day. It kicks in after 4 months.

Sorry I have been unable to get back online to respond until today. Thanks to everyone for their input and responses. I might try the WEN Tea Tree Oil first so thanks for that suggestion.
