Self Tanners Tarte?& my Nakery review

So I finally tried the Nakery self tanner - I only tried it on my lower legs.  Was easy to apply.  I thought after a few minutes my legs look dry so I quickly added some moisturizer over it, which I'm guessing is probably the opposite of how I should do it.  Anyway .....  I developed some nice color, a little uneven maybe but I think that was my application issue.  So, I do kind of like it and my legs looks better with a little color however I am very confused that it didn't seen to cover any of my imperfections.  How could that be?  I still have light spots and some dark spots and can see a few spider veins clearly.  (I don't know why I have all that going on but I do).

So, question:  is that weird that it didn't cover any of the imperfections?  My legs are now a better color - so it's a better look, but nothing seems blurred or less than it really is.

Also, as a plus I don't detect any scent.

Just a few minutes ago, the tarte self tanner was on air - brazilliance. I am tempted to try it now as the vendor stated that it covers imperfections!  Does it?  Has anyone tried this tanner?  Please post your review.

Exactly what product did you use, @moonandthestars, the Multivitamin Tanning Serum or  In the Buff Perfect & Blur Body Bronzer?

Since it's not clear, here are some possibilities -

- Did you exfoliate first?  That's usually recommended with self tanners.

- Did you use enough product?

- If you used the In the In the Buff Perfect & Blur product, that isn't a self tanner.  It's an instant bronzing product that will wash off in the shower.

- Adding moisturizer over the top of the In the Buff Perfect & Blur may have compromised the product, causing the coverage to break up in certain areas.

The Tarte product is entirely different than the In the Buff Perfect & Blur.  It will stain the skin upon application but takes a few hours to fully develop.  It is also buildable and wears off over time.

@moonandthestars   Most times with any product I've ever used I find my age and dark spots get darker. Can't explain why your's and Nakery did not seem to even cover your's.

I take a Qtip and dab a little lotion over any dark spots so the tanner doesn't make my dark spots darker.

You may need to go a little darker to blur those areas.

As for application, rub in circles. You will get much better, even coverage.

You should also shave and exfoliate the day before applying. It will help with application.

I also use Rich Girl from HSN. It is an illuminator that hides everything. I love this stuff. I use it when I need color quickly and want everything hidden.

The only product I found that hid my dark spots is Westmore body coverage..

Re: Self Tanners Tarte?& my Nakery review

@moonandthestars    Maybe its just me but   I have self tanned for years and I have never had a brand that covers anything.

Tan me yes.  Tan makes me look healthier and better  [ in my mind]   but the dark spots get darker and I can still see veins and stuff.

I don't think you did anything wrong  [ except maybe applying lotion on top before it had a chance to develop]

The sellers lie all the time and say it covers things    its just to sell the product.

Did you like the color?    Was it orange?

And how long does it last before fading.   Those are the things I look for.

Oh and I don't like it if it smells gross.    Thank you for letting us know about your experience with it.  The reviews are so mixed.

I think I will skip it.

I also purchased this. I am a self-tanner junkie LOL. I slapped some on my leg over a week ago. It was a hot mess because I did it haphazardly to try it out. I used too much but I have to say, it was a nice color when it settled down and is still going strong. I have shaved and exfoliated a couple of times and it still looks good. I would say this is a good product.

I ordered the Tarte one mentioned above this morning, but I will say my favorite hands down is the Tan Luxe drops. I have four kinds of Tan Luxe and the drops look the most natural and I can control the color.

@MG Chris   I look forward to your review on the Tarte self tanner.   And thanks for telling us how much you like the Tan-lux drops.  I have only used the butter.

I do like it but love Coco & eve so far the best.   It smells so good!   Like guava and mango.  You only have to leave it on for 2 hours and then it continues to develop.

I will be sure to let you know. I like the Tan Luxe butter I just have to be very careful because it tends to make me a little orange if I use too much. I must not have a great sense of smell because I smell nothing with any of them.

For anyone having trouble with self tanners I highly suggest some YouTube/TikTok videos. When I started a year ago I was so worried because I remembered the orange tans from year's ago. It had probably been ten years since I had sworn off of self tanning. I learned so much from videos and what tools to use for success.

Amy Morrison did an in-depth explanation one night when she was selling Tan Luxe Butter because she uses and loves the product. It was the best explanation I have ever seen a host or vendor do on self tanning.

Re: Self Tanners Tarte?& my Nakery review

As self tanners darken the pale skin, they also darken the darker spots, makes sense. Tan Luxe touts that it will not darken brown spots.
