Re: SIMPLIFY---WEEK 9 (last weekly thread--we will switch to monthly in March)

Money saved already today by cleaning my desk. I found a birthday card that I bought months ago when the store was having a Going Out of Business sale and had forgotten about. DS's birthday is Monday and I was going to buy a card tomorrow. In addition I had my eye on a tank at Lands End. I found a pic of a top with a similar print that I bought last year and have stored away for the winter. NO need for another. Saved well over $20.00 by cleaning my desk/ work area!

Re: SIMPLIFY---WEEK 9 (last weekly thread--we will switch to monthly in March)

I fell off the wagon last week with my 30% off coupon at Kohl's. I bought a spring sweater and 3 spring tops. I know I will be donating some tops when I get out my spring clothes.

I like the idea of the love it - wear it challenge. I know there are very few of my winter clothes that I have not worn. I guess that means I have done a pretty good job of purging. I do have a stack of red turtlenecks and red sweaters that I haven't worn this year. I used to wear a lot of red, but I guess not anymore. I will seriously look at all of the unworn pieces when I pack away my winter clothes.

DH painted our hallway and living room today, and we rehung the pics/artwork, etc. that we decided to put back up. It looks so fresh and pretty!! (don't want to look outside, snowing to beat the band). Queendiva, thanks for the idea...tomorrow I'm tackling our big desk.

I did my own taxes with turbo tax and saved 266. My taxes are too simple to pay someone to do them. Saved cash and paid for my car maintenance instead of putting it on a credit card. Contacted my mortgage company and I was able to cancel my PMI which will save me 216/year. And... I think I am through with high end makeup, I don't see enough difference to justify the cost.

Re: SIMPLIFY---WEEK 9 (last weekly thread--we will switch to monthly in March)

I seem to be in slow motion lately after a super energized start at the new year ~~~ I hope to revitalize {#emotions_dlg.bored}. It is just sooooo cold here in upstate NY that I have no energy!

I have been able to enjoy some extra $ from lowering both my cell phone program and house/car insurance premiums last month. Very nice to receive those bills and see a significant difference.

Have made no clothing/shoe purchases since we all began this journey, so I'm proud of that! Many times I have picked up something, whether at the grocery store or Dollar Store, and asked myself if I really needed it ~~ 100% of the time I have "heard encouraging voices" from this board and therefore, put the item down! {#emotions_dlg.biggrin}

Thanks to all ~

Re: SIMPLIFY---WEEK 9 (last weekly thread--we will switch to monthly in March)

Over the weekend I went through two storage containers (placed under the bed) and I had over 20 CitiKnit outfits. Some were 4piece wardrobes, others 2 piece outfits. Well I have not wore any of them for 2-3 years so I placed every piece of CitiKnits in huge bags and drove them to the local second hand shop. I know someone will find them at a great price and will be great wearing them.

I came home from that drop off and remembered I have way too many winter boots, even though I wear boots from November through March. I had 3 pairs in the original boxes and had not wore them this year so in a bag all 3 pairs in boxes went and I returned to the second hand shop with them. Again, I know someone will find the perfect pair of boots for them at a great price. This shop was started about 10 years ago by my church. Since then it has become a community based shop and many organizations around town support it. Lots of people volunteer there so it is truly a community thing. It felt good to provide needed items for those less fortunate.

My next project will be going through my linens - table covers, sheets, blankets, cloth napkins, etc. Any I decide that can go will end up at the same shop. Books are another item it want to go through and donate.

This thread has spurred me on to declutter and donate.

Thanks ladies.

I'm still here, but was out of commission for some time.

I have reduced my online shopping by 80%. I have also organized most of the rooms in my home.

I'm so glad to see people sticking with it. Hopefully, people are still simplifying, but not posting.

I'm still at it, but progress is slow here. Tue & Wed basically were a wash, back hurt so much I could only do the bare necessities. Feeling a little better today so am working on the seams in the drywall, a little, then resting back a little, and so it goes....

Re: SIMPLIFY---WEEK 9 (last weekly thread--we will switch to monthly in March)

Good morning,

I'm still at it, as well however, considering that a bulk of things went out last week, my main objective now is to reassess what I decided to keep and weed things out accordingly. Once we start our Love It, Wear It Challenge, this will help speed up the process for me. I am sure when Winter ends (and it WILL, although at the moment it seems less of a reality and more of a big wish), and I rotate my clothing to storage, I may part with a few more items from my cold-weather wardrobe than I decided to hang on to originally.

I do know though, that with this rough weather we are having, I may have to ditch a few boots that have just taken a massive beating (I walk A LOT) from the snow, salt, and ice, but even if I did do that, I'd still have ones for next winter that are in good condition. All in all, it's slowed, but it's a daily ritual that I have to implement so that I don't revert back to bad habits and accumulation of unnecessary stuff.

Have a lovely weekend, ladies!

Re: SIMPLIFY---WEEK 9 (last weekly thread--we will switch to monthly in March)

We got so bombarded with snow and awful weather over the past few weeks that decluttering had to take a back seat.

I'm still at zero on clothing purchases for the year (yea!) but got hooked by an enhancer and TSV ring the last time Barbara Bixby was on, and bought two little Honora rings yesterday while perusing the (mostly awful) selections for the Silver Bonanza day. So I'm feeling pretty good about the year so far. The weather is going to be calm today, so I'll be back at sorting through the clothes in the "excess" closet and moving them out or onto eBay.
