My husband and I decluttered our house 2 yrs. ago. We are 76 & 77 so we didn't want our kids to have to do it. What a great feeling!!! Now before I buy something, I think twice before I buy. I don't want to clutter up our house anymore.

I don,t have the clutter or credit card problem, but have way too much of the buying problem. I paid in full every month, but have really gone through savings. Mine is an addiction problem.because of thinking I am giving love to myself, but has gotten to the point of a lot of guilt.
Every time I buy, I plurge something. I have quite a few EP to pay come next statement on Q. Discover, Amex. And two visas. They all get paid in full, but it has to stop. I have returned ten items in the last week. Stuff that was cheap looking or broke in a month, or didn,t like. Most had no shipping charges because they were FROZEN TOYS DEFECTIVE AND A LUMERIE CANDLE .I was going to replace CANDLE, but thought, I really don,t need it.
This thread has really helped me to know I am not alone. Like we overeat to give ourselves love, some of us buy gifts to ourselves also to fill a void. I never have gotten a gift for a few years from anyone. I take that back, My Dentist gave me a mini I PAD this Christmas, which made me cry in front of everyone. I also got a big box of cookies from TJ from a friend????, who knew I live alone and can,t eat this stuff. I gave this as a donation at a dinner I went to. I never get a gift from family, The point being, I buy myself gifts I don,t need. It has been three days, no Q or any other shopping. I usually shop Q only. I will keep checking here it has been a big help.
I starting cleaning out drawers and closets months ago. Except for groceries, I don,t buy at brick and mortar, 80%Q and 10% Amazon. the rest pet meds.
The Q IS THE ADDICTION.
Yesterday, I brought a juicer and Keriug View alone with smaller items to GOING TO THE DOGS, a goodwill to benefit the Humane society. Today more stuff to get rid of, nail polishes, and Jewerly I don,t use. Some guilt coming from the money I spent and now getting rid of, like more throwing away of money. I even made out a budget yesterday and cut out things to spend money on.
Instead of four weeks hairdresser, will make it six. Also, I am thinking of dying my own hair, she doesn,t do much better. I will put the cute wigs I brought to use in between. I am going to make a game out of saving. Thank you for this thread.

I am in. It is actually one of my new year resolutions too.

I'm in. I'm going to Nordstrom's today, so this will really be a test for me. I got a duplicate color of Bobbi Brown's cream blush, so I want to exchange it for her eye makeup remover, the instant one, that is top rated by Paula's Choice, which I need and is the same price as the blush. I'm also out of my Clinique City Block, which I use mixed with BB cream mini's which are too dark for my complexion.
My vow for the new year will be to stay far, far away from GWP's and Holiday Blockbusters. I end up having to buy way too much to get one, and then don't use half or more of what's in them. I am getting away from powder blushes, I don't use black mascara, I really don't use any skin care except Paula's Choice or other brands she recommends, and the lipsticks you get with them are usually too bright, too dark or the wrong color for me.
I also vow to "go shopping in my bathroom" before I go to a store to shop. I did this yesterday when I ran out of shampoo, but still have a ton of conditioner. I went into my stash of mini and sample shampoos, (my trip this year is on hold) and will use those up. Which reminds me, It's okay to use two or three different brands together, despite what the cosmetic industry says.

Great going, ladies!
For those who want to stop all of the shopping emails, the ones where you're on their mailing list, sign up for:
Sign up with them email which you want to declutter. Then go to "edit inbox subscriptions" and you can unsubscribe or unroll the mailing. If you unroll it, you will receive one email a day with all of your emails in a list. Usually, I just delete the email.
So liberating! I'm actually going there now to add a few more to my unroll me list. Sure does clean up my email!
Have a great Sunday!

Thank you all for the help and motivation this thread is giving me. A couple of days ago I donated winter coats I don't need to Good Morning America's "Donate-a-Winter Coat Drive". Happy they will go to those who truly need a coat to keep warm this winter. And, I'm not buying a new one until I need one.

I was sick all wknd and woke up today so anxious I could hardly move. My savings are way down. I already packed three packages; they come to about $250 that I spent. I had gotten into cc debt about ten years ago and thought I had it licked.
Addictions return. Shopping online got my mind off all the stressful things I was dealing with.
Has anyone found a website for shopping online, or shopping period. I don't shop in B and M stores unless necessary.

I used up my last very convenient Kcup, so it's back to My Kcup and my stash of ground coffee.
I've been un-enrolling in shopping emails since NYE.

Oh the Kcups!! They really get expensive. Since I'm the only one in the family that drinks coffee, I stopped buying Kcups about 2 months ago. It's ground coffee for me as well. It actually tastes better to me.
So far, I've done no QVC buying...a whole 3 days. Isaac is my weakness. I had two Isaac T-shirts in my shopping cart last night and stopped myself. I was going to buy them only because I loved the colors and decided that it was not a good enough reason. I shut the TV off at that point. It feels good to have saved money.

Good for you!! You've taken the first step! Maybe get a notebook or use a spreadsheet to keep track of everything you spend. That might help you to see what your particular problem areas are. Every time that you don't spend money, that is money saved. You can keep track of how much you saved and make it into a game.
