In addition to cutting down on QVC purchases, I commit to cutting down on all purchases.
I commit to using up what I have and really taking a long hard look at ALL I have.
Remember, one day at a time! We won't be perfect, but we are going in the right direction!
Thanks for getting us started today! My goals are the same as 3redheads.
I commit to only buying the essentials at the grocery store.
I will stay out of clothing stores for the purpose of "window shopping." Having said that, I realize I need to take all but one credit card out of my wallet.
I will clean out my closet and donate unwanted items. That way I will know what I have.
Good luck and success to all of us in 2015!

I am in. I have to take baby steps or I will fail. I have committed to a low buy strategy for 2015.
Here is one helpful suggestion that is helping me so far. I actually started this about two weeks ago. It has helped me not to watch QVC or HSN. I use to have one of the channels on as background noise often. No more. I will switch to watch when a specific product that I want is being offered. An example for me would be the Origami Shelves that will be a TS on HSN this weekend.
This has cut down on the Random Purchases that catch my eye.

I have to tune out QVC on tv. Does anyone remember when HSN used to have a timer on the items? If you didn't order by the time the timer ran out, you couldn't buy it? It was in the 80's. When I think of all of the stuff I've purchased. I've gotten much better over the years.
Things I've wasted money on:
exercise equipment
kitchen gadgets-pressure cooker, NuWave, fryer, slow cooker etc. etc.
hair care-Instyler, Calista round brush, straightener, curling irons for after the hair is straightened
skin care gadgets-Palovia, nuface, PMD
In my original thread, I mistyped and put spend less on things I don't need. That makes no sense. How about not buying things I don't need. We will still have to buy the necessities, but I will ask myself if I NEED it or just WANT it.
Thanks for the support!!

So super excited to be in this with you gals.........
I retired July 1st and have been trying to focus on cleaning out garments/shoes that I would consider ""work clothes"". What has been working for me is keeping a large garbage bag in the spare room and tossing items/clothes/shoes/boots in as I tackle that closet or dresser.
My second goal is going to be more focused on paying down cc (Thanks to 3 redheads for inspiring me with this goal!). Just returned home from grocery shopping and all of you were ""in my head"" ~ I did not buy carelessly!
I think we can all help/support each other and am thrilled to be part of a POSITIVE group of self-aware women!

3redheads, will this be a weekly or a monthly thread?
Never mind. I just saw where it's written Week 1 in the tittle. This leads me to believe that this will be a weekly thread.

ALL IN!!
‎12-31-2014 03:15 PM
Hello smart women. My goals are two fold. #1 Watch those random, meaningless purchases and charges (Spend the money on travel, donations or savings instead). #2 Continue with organization goals around the house. Don't stop the momentum.
I've organized and streamlined my things, but husband and I have varying perspectives on the subject of his and our things. I'm turning into a minimalist while he likes to collect a lot of stuff like sports memorabilia. It doesn't bother him to have a disorganized basement (80% his stuff) or garage (95% his stuff.) His closet and drawers are a mess. He has tee shirts from the 90s. He doesn't see this as a problem. Other than that -- he's a great guy and we get along well. But it bugs me....
Good luck to us all in 2015!

On 12/31/2014 NiteStar said:I won't count the stuff I have coming that I ordered before today....such as, (1) roaster oven (however that is something that I do need); (2) several clearance twisted peppermint items from Bath and Body Works; (3) clearance handbag from ShopHQ, and (4) four Marquis by Waterford leaf dishes on clearance.
When those things arrive, before you open them, ask yourself - do I really need or will I actually use any of these things or was I enticed to buy them because they were on clearance? Then return what you don't really need.
Also don't watch the shopping shows. It is too easy to be pulled back in by all the comments like "must have" or it is only "X dollars and change" when it really is 4 or 5 times that much.
