@BarbiHollywood I am not the least surprised  QVC reps would not have your answer, but I would hope IT reps would be supplied with the information.  They aren't repping thousands of different products or brands and if they ship directly to the customer, QVC wouldn't necessarily be in the loop.

I am fairly certain the last 2 skincare products I ordered came directly from the vendor rather than out of a QVC warehouse.   I don't have another shipment due until February, but I will check carefully then

How do you know Ulta doesn’t have product from the same lot in their inventory.

If the product looks and smells ok, I’m not going to turn myself inside out fretting over it. You do you though.

The same should apply to any company selling outdated products.  They should be taken to task @RollTide2008 .  This time it just happens to be QVC.  What's the difference where it's sold?

Have you ever heard them tell you how often you should change your mascara?  I have.  Every six months once it's been opened and used.  Why introduce god knows what near your eye area @Icegoddess ?

It bothers me that when customers order cosmetics from QVC, they don't know just how old the make-up may be. Do they do this with food too? I think the powers-that-be need to be attuned to the ethical considerations of this practice. I don't know whether a distributor is pulling a fast one, someone in the supply chain decided to make a few bucks by selling expired products at regular prices, or whether sinister forces are afoot at QVC, to paraphrase Sherlock Holmes. Whatever is going on, QVC is now joining Amazon and Walmart as places where I will not buy cosmetics online. My list is getting too long.

Even if it were a distributor pulling a fast one the Q in QVC should mean quality control from them.

Q is just the middleman, the products sold come from IT so shame them. I sent an email about this thread to IT & I'm hoping to get a reply soon about shelf life & expiration dates...instead of huffing & puffing here take the time & email IT too. I use their powder foundation & bought 3 today on HSN 50% off sale so their explanation matters to me...I toss my compact every 6 months, it's still almost half full so I never paid attention to the expiration date.

Doesn't the Q have a duty to double check?  Sure they do @kitcat51 .  They have the duty to not just expect others to do the right thing, but do the right thing themselves.

@gertrudecloset I don't keep mascara that long; it would dry up anyways.  I know what the experts have to say on the subject.  Never had a problem.  I don't stick my fingers in them.

@Icegoddess  Yeah I don't think sticking your fingers in them matters.  I think it just makes sense to protect your eyes from bacteria that would be found on the brush of your mascara.  Cause it's there.

I was told by a cosmetics person to change mascara every 3 months.  I've also heard that on QVC.

@Mindy D   That link was given to me by the QVC Customer Service rep.  I think you're not allowed to post links to sites that sell.  I might be wrong, though.

I just spoke with another QVC CS rep who will be emailing me a postage-paid label for me to return the makeup, and I've asked for a more senior CS rep to contact me to ask WHY they sell outdated makeup.

@BarbiHollywood

Oh, good grief.   I'm not sure I have this straight .... you said that there were no actual expiration dates on the makeup and you had to research this, right?

So ... if QVC is shipped a supply of makeup from any vendor, and it has no expiration dates on it, how would they know any more than we know?  It's my understanding that warehouses ship out in sequence, with the most recent received to be the last to go out.  What goes out first is based on order of manufacturing.  The "oldest" merchandise will always be what goes out first.

Personally, I was of the impression that makeup that is sealed is "fresh" and once it is opened and used, the clock starts ticking for a use-by date.

While I am a little surprised by this, it's also possible things sat in warehouses because of the covid problem.

I have a couple large bottles of sealed WEN which I plan to use, although I didn't buy them yesterday.

I was wrong about the mascara and 6 months.

Here's what Web MD has to say about it all!

How Long Should You Keep Makeup?

Expiration dates for cosmetics explained.

Q: "I never throw makeup out. How bad is that?"

A: Makeup products don’t carry a 'best by' date. But they do have built-in expiration dates. Here’s a general guide.

Mascara & liquid eyeliner: Every time you put the wand back into the tube, you’re letting in  bacteria. These products have the shortest shelf life. Replace every 3 to 4 months.

Liquid foundation: Stored away from heat, foundation can remain stable for up to a year. If you have sensitive or acne-prone skin, don’t dip your finger into the bottle. Apply with a brush or sponge, and don’t double dip.

Lip gloss & lipstick: These are less likely than liquid-based makeup to grow bacteria. It’s safe to hold on to them for at least 6 months and the lipstick for a year.

Powders: Unless you notice a funny smell or the color has turned, you can safely use powder-based products for 18 months to 2 years.

Powder shadows, like pressed powders, are less prone to contamination because they, too, lack water (if you wet them, toss after six months). But aging eye shadows have performance issues: They get packed down, making it harder to pick up pigment with your brush, says Bartolucci.
