Re: SEPHORA ... OR ... ULTA?

[ Edited ]

I shop both, but if I'm shopping online, it's usually Sephora because of the free shipping.

Ulta's free shipping has a minimum purchase, The Ulta store is practically around the corner and Sephora is in the mall a bit of a drive.

As far as merchandise, I think Sephora has a better selection of products, better lighting and the sales people are better trained than the ones at Ulta.

I'm not drawn to Sephora for the rewards program since there is usually nothing I want to choose and my birthday gift is sometimes "meh". I'm a VIB, so my benenfit at sales is not enough for me to keep a list and wait to buy what I want. Nordstrom, Belk's, Macy's and pro sights I use always have better deals throughout the year.

Ulta's standout feature for me is their selection of hair tools...dyers irons, etc. They also have some drugstore items to purchase if I stop in for makeup. There's also a lot of nail polish. I only do pedis and enjoy the selection of colors.

I've shopped at both online.  As far as in person, since ULTA is closer, I would go there.

For me, it would be Ulta, as there are 2 in my town, within about 3 blocks of each other--and one is in Target!!! I don't buy much in there tho--can usually find what I want cheaper online.

Re: SEPHORA ... OR ... ULTA?

I only shop Sephora if I can't get it at Ulta. The Ultamate Rewards system is nice (and better than Sephora)  because I can use them on things I want, not just what am offered. Over the years I have redeemed points for hair appliances, spendy palettes and foundations.

Born in Georgia and have lived in Texas for

54 years and have still never heard that saying.  But speaking of living in the south, have you ever seen a dead armadillo in the road, on its back, holding a Bud Light beer can to its mouth?

Since there are three times as many Ultas in the country than Sephoras, it's no wonder that more people shop there. If the two stores were side by side which one would you prefer to go to?  I'm a die hard Sephora girl.  SO glad I can shop online!

I have discovered Ulta salon. They do a lot of color and that's what I go for. I have my hair cut stylist and neither care if I have both for services. I get points for salon visits so I can treat my self with some beauty treats.

The stylist at Ulta said they have a huge shop lifting problem. After the remodel is finished the check out will be located at the rear of the store rather than the front. Sounds like not a good idea. They have a "greeter" type person at the front now.

I had a $50 Ulta gift card last year and really didn't need anything new, since I was trying to use things up.  So I decided to "try" a new stylist and go there for a shampoo & cut.

Cheapest stylist there, since they can charge different amounts, was $80.   Yes, I only paid $30 plus tip, but it was still too high ... JMO, of course.

At the large shopping center I frequent, the Ulta there has definitely been the "big cheese" ... large busy store and plenty of good parking by their entrance.  Recently, one store there went out of business, and Sephora moved in ... and now it's no more than 400 feet from Ulta's front door.

I bet the folks at Ulta are just hopping mad!
