The roseacea on my nose is really bad. It got worse recently when I used a mineral sunblock on my nose. ( can't tolerate chemical sunscreens) I got a lot of red bumps.
@SilleeMee My derm gave me a scrip for Metrogel because the Finaecea topical was $400.Is there a generic for Azaelic Acid?
Hoping it won't turn into a pickle nose!

@foxywoods I was skimming threads and saw this. I don't want to intervene in your question directed to specific poster, but since you asked about azelaic acid....
I am a big fan of Paula's Choice and use many of their products. I don't specifically use the one you mentioned, but just wanted to share they have a 10% Azelaic Acid Booster on sale at this time for $31.20. ![]()

Sorry about your red nose. I'm not familiar with either of those Rx products but I would look for Finaecea otc alternatives and there seems to be several for azelaic acid. Prices don't look that high in that direction.
What was the brand of mineral sunblock that caused it to get worse?

@foxywoods - I have been plagued by this for years. It started in my 20's. I thought I had a really bad sunburn, but it didn't get better and it moved to one side of my face.
First dermatologist told me no makeup. OK. I got a second opinion and he put me on Metrogel. It didn't help a lot. We moved and the doctor gave me a new cream. It actually made a dent in my skin!
The current dermatologist I'm seeing put me on a very low dose of Doxycycline. That made all of the difference! I still take it. It cleared everything up, and people can't believe I ever had it.
Good luck! ![]()

@foxywoods Metrogel worked for me. Also, there is a "green" colored application made by one of the prominent cosmetic companies to go under your makeup. I can't remember which one, because I used it so long ago. It is designed to neutralize the red color. It worked for me.

@SilleeMee Block Star by Bliss spf 50 -20% zinc oxide. I don't see the same version sold on the wesite this is version I used kind of a squared off container.

I mixed applications using Pang Pang Mini-Sun sunscreen cushion. that has Octinoxate and Octisalate and Titanium Dioxide along with Zinc Oxide. it whitens the skin.

@beach-mom i know Doxy is one treatment but I cannot take antibiotics like Doxycycline - I get a bad upper GI reaction.

The Pang Pang product contains chemical sunscreen. When chemical ss is mixed with mineral ss elements it can reduce SPF effectiveness. Best to use one or the other. So your red nose could be from sun exposure or it could be a reaction to the chemical ss. Hard to say.
