I was recently diagnosed with Rosacea and given an oral medication Oracea. However, I'm wondering if anyone has had success with something over the counter. Any chance?

I developed Rosacea for the first time last spring. My doctor gave me a sample and prescription for Finicea. Or something like that. I didn't notice much improvement from the sample and didn't fill the prescription as my co pay would have been around $200! My Rosacea at least for now, has mostly cleared up. I did buy IT Cosmetics Bye Bye Underey and it does a terrific job covering the outbreaks I have.

Why is it, when I have a 50/50 guess at something, I'm always 100% wrong?

I have Rosacea, and while I have not ever taken the oral med, I do you two script skin meds daily. Okay, sometimes I forget, but I'm *supposed* to use them everyday. Besides the redness, when mine flares I have what looks to be acne on my chin and cheeks. The skin cream meds have DEFINITELY helped with this. One during the day is called AcZone (I think). And it's completely clear. One I use at night is white and kinda pasty (think Zinc Oxide).

Nothing over the counter has helped me--even those products that say they're for redness relief. What HAS helped is daily, no exuses, sunscreen. Every.single.day. Rosacea is exacerbated by the sun. And finding products that contain hyaluronic acid.

glmama, what products do you use that have hyaluronic acid? Do you ever use it in its pure form?

My oldest daughter was diagnosed with rosacea about two years ago; the prescription med, face wash, and cream are the only things that are working to control her outbreaks.

I've had the best luck with Aveeno ultra calming cleanser and daily moisturizer. The Dr recommended these products or Dove sensitive skin bar for cleansing. They have helped but Clinique redness solutions daily relief cream has really helped the most with redness. It is pricey but well worth it. I use it morning and night. I have a few prescriptions but they don't help as much as the over the counter listed above. But everyone is different and what works with one person doesn't necessarily work for someone else.

Thanks, all. I now have a few things to experiment with. Thankfully, my only symptom is redness, but it's obvious enough that people ask if I'm tanning (no...I'm not). I appreciate the responses!

The problem with rosacea is that it is so very different from person to person, even if they have the same symptoms. What is a miracle for one person can be a disaster for another. The best thing you can do is figure out your triggers and avoid them. And figure out what ingredients your skin likes. When I have a particularly bad flare, low dose oral antibiotics (like oracea) help tremendously, but I've never been on them long term. For me retinoids have been very effective, but I started them VERY slowly under my derm's care. Also, with rosacea less is more. The less I do to my skin, the better.

As a fellow rosacea sufferer I completely agree w/cassiem!

Thanks, again. My triggers have been difficult to identify because I haven't really changed anything and the Rosacea just came on suddenly. In essence, I wake up red and go to bed red. Exercise causes more redness, but I'm not giving up fitness. Smiley Happy It's going to take some to work through this then manage it effectively.
