I've noticed that both of the princes, Harry and William, have had a form of rosacea since they were born. I believe Diana had rosacea as well. I don't see that Prince Charles has it, but I think Prince George may have it as well.

I have always had a mild case of it along my jawbone. My mother used to call it my "health." I hated it and always tried covering it up.

Is rosacea inherited? Is there anything you can do for it?

Yes, use very gentle cleansers...hypoallergenic or organic. Anything for very sensitive skin! The sun and stress can make it worse...the cold too. Certain foods..as well. Its very common! When I was first diagnosed I used metrogel and it only made things worse. Thats when I did some research and found by using the the right cleansers and avoiding your triggers..I did fine. I think Jamie of IT cosmetics has it too. Usually fair skinned people have this problem..alcohol can also make it worse. HTH~

@emmysmom

What type of cleansers and moisturizers do you use, if you don't mind my asking?  I have been using metrolgel for a number of years.  It does seem to help with redness but lately I seem to be getting more red bumps, etc.  Thank you.

I use Peter Thomas Roth cloud cream cleanser or Andalou 1000 roses foaming clenaser...both very gentle. Hope this helps..I haven't used any meds for years now.

These are recent prescriptions , prescribed the beginning of December.

METRONIDAZOLE , I think this is the gel you mentioned.

SOOLANTRA, this is a cream which I prefer to the gel but the doctor said both can be used, one in the AM and one at night.

SODIUM SULFACETAMIDE TEN PERCENT AND SULFUR FIVE PERCENT, this is the cleanser which I use to wash my face at night.

The cleanser is expensive but my dermatologist was able to link me to a pharmacy she deals with and I was able to get it at a reasonable price, otherwise I wouldn't have been about to buy it.

What happens  is  when the rosacea subsides I tend not to be faithful to  using  the products meaning I don't go to them daily.  However, if I do have a break out, I have the medications at hand.

It works for me but as you said, what works for one may not for another.  Right now the rosacea is gone so these medications do help me.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!!!!!!

@spiderw

Thank so much for your informative post!  I have a lot of broken caps, which I hate!  For a while there I was gettig blemish type things and the metrogel seemed to help with those.  Lately, I have been getting these red bumps again.  I don't know if its stress, my diet -- which has not been too good lately, cold weather, or what.  It's just no fun when your complexion goes haywire!

Re: Rosacea in the Royal Family

@SilleeMee....what kind of laser is being used for your treatment? Does the doctor do them or technician? I did BBL (broad band light) yrs ago which is a lot like IPL but much better for me by comparison.

I have rosacea and broken capillaries on face and neck...chest...so expensive to try and do everything so I only did my face. But I really need effective treatment for it all.

Re: Rosacea in the Royal Family

The person doing my treatments is a dermatologist doctor who is also a certified medical aesthetician with fifteen years of laser treatment experience. She is part of a group of laser specialists, including other doctors and technicians.

My treatments have been done using a few differnet lasers. A pulse CO2, a YAG and also IPL. She has had to use different lasers to treat the varying vascular conditions I have. For me there is no OSFA...LOL! @tsavorite

Re: Rosacea in the Royal Family

I have type 1 rosacea and have had the yag laser. It does cause bruising in order to work but it has helped with degree of flushing and the burning pain associated with it. I need to go in again to get more done first of the year.

I had bruising with the CO2 pulse. @GenXmuse The YAG gave me red welts that lasted for many days. Woman Tongue I keep a tube of arnica just in case I need it. that really helps with the bruising.

Re: Rosacea in the Royal Family

You are welcome, AngelPuppy1  The meds do help if used regularly and if you have them and the roscea returns, you have creams/gels to use.  There are trigger factors for sure and the doctor or going online could provide them.

Happy healthy New Year!

Re: Rosacea in the Royal Family

People with Irish and British Isles ancestry are prone to rosacea. It's a hereditary thing.

I'm Irish American and had it to bad that I paid for the laser treatments.
