Re: Rosacea - Blemishes are awful - Know this has been addressed before -- what products do you use?

I did not read all of the comments but my Dermatologist said Retin A can be used to treat it. Are you also watching what your eating and drinking? Also be careful of the sun and cosmetics. I have a very mild case of it. It shows up may once a year in the summer if I get too much sun from swimming but Metrogel gets rid of it within 2 days of use and so does Retin A.

@angelpuppy
ITA that deems I have seen are rather non-chalant about which products to use on a consistent basis. Dove/cetaphil have been recommended to me, also (Clinique/Almay)
I wish MDs would give better information about this.
A Rosacea specialist would be the best especially if you have ocular. My ophthalmologist checks mine once a year--- I do no have ocular--- she insists on eye washes with Johnsons baby shampoo along base of lashes.
I am allergic, and she was ok with my method of washing eyes.
I am sorry for you for this.
Again, there are several medical issues that tend to repeatedly crop up with me and the medical community seems to brush them off.❤️

I will also say that some foods tend to cause an immediate reaction. Chocolate/nuts/fluoride in toothpaste/scented products..
Everything I use is unscented, come to think of it.
I will read up on the Rosacea society link...thanks!

Re: Rosacea - Blemishes are awful - Know this has been addressed before -- what products do you use?

My papules/pustules mostly flare during times of stress or when my skincare routine has been altered, or both. I use Paula's Choice skin recovery line as my skin is dry. However, I like the Olay foaming face wash sensitive formula better than skin recovery cleanser. I also use Olay regenerist fragrance free serum and in the winter, skin recovery oil booster. My prescriptions are a combination of Metrogel and Finacea, alternating day & night. My deem had me add Elidel to my face care routine on top of the other mess to help calm my skin down as it has been more reactive since my mother's illness and the aftermath of her death.

Diet can also play a role. Spicy foods tend to trigger flare ups, as can several other foods including a high caffeine intake. I know I'll have a skin reaction within about 3-7 days of eating spicy foods or when mainlining caffeine for whatever reason. Caffeine also helps treat my migraines so a serious migraine cluster is inevitably followed by a Rosacea flare. Constantly standing over a hot stove can also be a contributor. Check with the Rosacea society. They have tons of information.

Re: Rosacea - Blemishes are awful - Know this has been addressed before -- what products do you use?

I would like to echo the other post stating no fragranced skin products. I had to give up regular laundry detergent because of other body reaction. No phosphate-detergents for me. It's Dreft or Ivory snow all the way. Also, make sure you are using a gentle, mineral-based sunscreen with at least an SPF of 30. 15 is too low and avobenzone and other chemical-based sunblocks absorb the sun's heat rather than deflecting it. This will also aggravate your Rosacea as well as being painful!

Aubrey organics, the calming products, healed my skin! Love Aubrey! I think menopause was the culprit in my case.

I swear I keep missing half the replies here and I still am not getting used to this set up!!

I am wanting to be sure that I thank everyone for the help given here.

I have used unscented products for years.  I wish I knew why this sudden flair.  I really do believe that part is attributed to stress but then again, I am having stress so much that I feel like I am constantly in stressful conditions.

As for food, I do not know.  I altered my diet years ago also when I began getting severe migraines and eliminated a lot of foods and drinks then.  If I keep eliminating, I will soon be eating toast and water only!

I think doctors of all kinds for the most part just don't want to take the time any more.  Just rush, rush, rush.  Push a patient in the door and out.

For now, I am going to stick with as basic and few things as I can and see how that goes.  And once I get the new prescription, I am hoping that will show some improvement.

As usual, thank you for all your kindness!

Editing to add:  Yes, I totally agree that avoiding the sun is very important and  I do this.  And after things calm down, I do plan on trying Basis.

Blessings!!

Go get a BBL Photo facial. $800-1200.00 and laser clinics finance. Stress is awful for skin. Every day you need to say I look better than I did yesterday!

@AngelPuppy1 Got caught in the sun/heat Friday night and oh! Another breakout and it's really bad this time. I need to cut out almonds, too. Any updates?
