This is my review of the Revlon Hair Dryer and Hot Air Brush
Price & where to buy:
After I purchased it from Target for 54.99. I saw Ulta has it for $64, Amazon has it for $40.
Characteristics:
This dryer/styler is one piece, with a large 4.25 in oval barrel .
It has two types of bristles. In the middle, the bristles are nylon pins with round tips. Both of the sides have nylon bristles mixed with boar type tufted bristles.
I think the barrel is plastic, but it has ceramic ionic technology (sorry can't explain that part. lol) There are 3 settings plus off: low, cool, high.
My observations:
It weighs a full pound according to my kitchen scale LOL. This might be a problem for some. I have chin length, fine, layered hair. So I am able to manage for the 10-15 minutes I use it. But I will say, after just using it, my arm is tired.
The cool setting is no different than the low setting. The temperature didn't cool down at all after a minute or two. Maybe mine is defective? Not sure about that.
It did dry my hair. I used it once on towel dried hair. That didn't work so well. It took longer and the styling aspect wasn't as effective. The next time I used it, I let my hair air dry almost all the way. However, adding mousse and root lifter did dampen it a bit. I prefer this level of moisture in my hair to start.
In addition to drying, it did smooth and add volume to my hair. I also used this to freshen up bed head and that worked well.
My style seemed to last longer and I didn't need to wash my hair for the last 4 days. I could have probably skipped washing today, too. I just felt like washing it. In the past, I needed to wash it at least every 3rd day.
I have used other dryer stylers with round metal barrels. They had more of a curling iron effect. With this styler I could flip the hair up or under, but it's not curled at all. I still have and like the round brush dryer styler. The two tools provide different looks.
How I style my hair with it:
- I start with almost completely air dried hair, apply mousse and root lifter.
- I don't have a ton of hair. So I can do four sections (back, sides and top). I pin off the top and sides.
-Working from the ends of the back, I roll the brush up and under, in the direction I want, a few times to dry the hair.
- Then I work through the side sections. Starting at the bottom, rolling up and under, then turn the barrel vertical and roll forward and back to blend with the back section.
- Whichever side my part is on and also for the crown, I lift the hair and direct it to blend and smooth.
-Once it's done, I put velcro rollers (2) in my bangs to side sweep them and give them more shape. I spray my whole head with hairspray and I don't touch my hair until it cools
-Once cool, I remove the rollers and shape my hair with fingers etc. Maybe tease the crown or add more spray.
My overall thoughts:
I like not washing my hair as often andd I didn't use very much dry shampoo either. I used to use dry shampoo, even on days I washed my hair, to add some grit and volume. The tool itself is heavy and that's the one thing that could be improved.
Final thought:
It seems to me, hair length is not as important as I originally thought. Unless of course you have very short (pixie cut) hair. It's the skinny sides of oval, getting close into your roots, with the length of the oval that provides volume without curling the hair.
