The list seems to contradict their assertion that higher SPFs offer little extra protection?
I'm terrible about using sunscreen but I recently started using the Coola Daydream mineral primer SPF30 (cuz it's awesome!) and I also have some Elta MD; neither are on the list

I've been using CVS's generic version of Coppertone Water Babies SPF50 for several years now. Glad to see that it is in the top 5. They maked the exact same formula for adults (using the word "sensitive" on the label, if I recall) and charge more for it.

@Andreatoo yeah they didn't test ALL sunscreens as that would be near impossible, lol. I trust Elta MD's sunscreens though- used them for many years in the past and never got burned or even slightly tanned and have always had great skin checks for all those years (no sun damage).

From the article:"The top five sunscreen lotions, according to the report, are:
- La Roche-Posay Anthelios 60 Melt-In Sunscreen Milk SPF 60
- Pure Sun Defense SPF 50
- Coppertone Water Babies SPF 50
- Equate Ultra Protection SPF 50 (Walmart brand)
- No-Ad Sport SPF 50"
A few of the worst ones were:
"The most problematic products were Banana Boat Kids Tear-Free, Sting-Free Lotion and CVS brand Kids Sun Lotion, which were both labeled as SPF 50 but were found to have only SPF 8."
@HappyDaze - thx for the list. I think we have used the No-Ad. Anyone use the others? Reviews?
I don't like products with strong fragrance. My current fav is Isomers. Great for all ages, no fragrance, very effective.
@Chi-town girl you are welcome. I wish whomever has Consumer reports could actually post a list of ALL the sunscreens they tested and how they all did (it should be on their website or in the magazine). I have not tried any of the sunscreens in the list I posted.
I too don't like products with strong fragrance unless it is my body butter or lotion. I paticularly cannot tolerate facial sunscreens with strong fragrance.

Sometimes it's impractical to reapply sunscreen. Unless I have a tube in my car or handbag I can forget to apply it on my arms and legs. I don't use the recommended amount as I would be greasy. When I was in Las Vegas I didn't spend a lot of time outdoors in the daytime. We were usually inside casinos, foodcourts, or malls.

@HappyDaze wrote:The part of the report I didn't like was that they say the sunscreens with chemical sunscreens tended to fair better overall than those just containing the mineral sunscreens. I've seen this often in studies but, unfortunately, I cannot use chemical sunscreens because they irritate my skin and eyes! So that is why I am even more diligent about reapplying sunscreen throughout the day and I wear alot of UV clothing and hats and try to stay out of the sun as much as possible without being completely whacko, lol.
I keep a silk scarf in my handbag and car to cover my décolleté when I'm out all day. The sun is really intense in the summer in that area when I'm driving & it seems the windsheild just makes it more intense.
@Chi-town girl After having skin cancer on my face, my Dr knows that I can't wear SPF (allergy) so he has me wear cotton gloves and a pair of sleeves from a mans shirt when I'm driving.
When I'm riding, I have one of those baby screens that you put on the window.
The Dr said that riding in a car can be worse than being in the sun because of the glass.
He said that not always but a lot of face cancer is on the left side of your face.

My problem with this is the focus on SPF over UVA damage. People will get more sun because they're not burning, and they'll wonder what happened when all those wrinkles and sun spots show up.

Andrea--I don't rmember all of them; just the one I bought and surprisingly, it was Tar@gets store brand spray which was in the top few on the list.
