Remember Monistat Chafing Gel for Primer?

[ Edited ]

So several years ago someone here discovered and shared Monistat Chafing Gel for a makeup primer.  That was before I had ever considered (and maybe even heard of) makeup primers.  Since so many tried it and loved it I gave it a try.  Life changing Smiley Wink  But, I had never and to this day still have never used anything else for a primer.  For those have have used it, are you still using it or have you discovered that REAL primers are better?  I'm 60 with dry to normal skin.  Thanks!

i still use it, ... and i have never tried anything else since i started using it several  years ago.  prior to that, i had a tube of the mac primer and so i did a comparison, and i found that the monistat worked just as well as the mac.

ps: not that it matters, but i found out about this on another board, not here.

@monicakm    ...I have been using the Monistat Chafing Gel as a makeup primer ever since I heard about it on these Forums.  It works just as well as any other  REAL primer I had ever tried.

Yes, I tried it and I liked it a lot. But unfortunately it made me break out and I think it was because of the cones it has. I usually don't have a problem with cones. But the Monistat did not agree with my skin. I thought it was an excellent dupe for the Smashbox Photo Finish primer.

These days I wear my sunscreen as a primer. I just apply it right under my foundation, blot then put on my makeup. For me that's as good as it gets...sunscreen doubling as a primer.

I still use it and always will as long as they make it. I tried a few drugstore brands like Elf and did not like them. I don't wear makeup everyday so I will not spend a lot of money on primer.

The Monistat is great anyway.

Why are you using an anti-fungal medicine as a primer for your face? Just curious seeing that America now has to worry about a new drug resistant fungus called Candida auris.

It's not the one for the yeast infection. Monistat makes an anti-chafing gel meant to be used on body parts that chafe such as the inner thighs.  It's a silone-y product.  Not anti fungal.

I wondered how long it would take someone to totally skip over the "chafing" part of Monistat Chafing Gel and ask why women are putting an anti-fungal medication on their faces Smiley Wink  It's ok, you're not the first LOL

I've been vey pleased with it but I've neve tried anything else so I don't know what I'm missing.  After seeing the reference to a dupe for Smashbox, I remember (but I didn't before I saw the reference.  $6 for a tube that's much larger than any concealer I've seen elsewhere.

Yes! No longer buy the Smashbox primer. Been using Monistat gel for years! I’ve probably gone through 50 tubes. I always have a dozen on hand. I also use it at night over my night cream and that is also a game changer for me. Got the primer at night idea from Mally. For me it seals in the night cream and keeps the ingredients on my face through the night.
