I'm starting to notice thinning hair in the top. Anyone have a treatment solution with proven results? How long did it take before you saw new growth ? Thanks !

10,000 mcg's of biotin.
My sister tried it first, then my mother. It worked for both-took about 1 month to notice a definite result.
Think I'll try it too! I forgot about it until you posted this.
But as always, check out possible side effects (upset stomach) and any other considerations for you.
You can also get it from eggs, meat, nuts, some vegetables.
It also can create false results on thyroid or hormonal level testing.

A laser hair growth helmet. I used a Theradome. About $400.
A forum member posted very good results from minoxidil a couple of years ago.
Collagen supplementation.
Bamboo Extract supplementation

I'd like to know if anyone found something that actually works with minimal to no side effects.
Thinning hair is a natural part of aging for a LOT of people. I don't like it either.
There are so many products out there and I've tried several. Read the contents and find the sources of contents and you'll see most are gimmicks.
Biotin is good but be careful with it and don't take too much. There are side effects with Biotin. It messed up my thyroid.
I'm taking a reputable multi vitamin with biotin and am getting more than enough for my body. High doses of most supplements are a waste since the body will eliminate what it doesn't need.
I like Nioxin 1 shampoo and conditioner, especially when I blow dry my hair. I like most KMS body/volume products.
I don't like frizz control, smoothing, and softening type conditioners and leave-ins. They make my hair baby soft and I lose all style and shape within a 1-2 hours.

You may want to read this before diving into mega doses of biotin. I used to take it and didn't see much success, if any. Now I won't take it anymore.

Hair laser cap. It takes a long time, sometimes up to a year for some people to see any new hair. There is a small percentage of people who it will not work for but for the majority it does work. You have to commit forever but it's a one-time purchase.
Minoxidil is another proven method of treatment and it's also a forever commitment as well as a forever drain on your wallet so consider that if you choose to go that route.
If you are an outdoor person, protect your scalp from the sun by wearing a hat. UV radiation from the sun puts the hair growth cycle in a premature shedding phase and thinning is accelerated.
ETA-
Laser and minoxidil treatments are scientifically-based options where both are FDA cleared and approved.

I was diagnosed with Lichen planopilarus (LPP, a scarring alopecia) by biopsy in 2018. Here is what the dermatologist rx'd and what has worked:
betamethosone propitionate lotion along hairline 2X/da
Rogaine foam at hairline 2X/da (I love this product and it works as a way to style my hair
fergon iron tablets
Ritual vitamins for women 50+ (suggested by my hairdresser because her client had such luck making better hair for her
I have taken Lessman Hair, Skin Nail and right now Lessman B vitamins

re biotin and kidney, thyroid etc.
Most all studies say biotin does not affect kidney function or thyroid but can alter creatinine tests which could alter detection of kidney stones or problems.
The same with thyroid function tests-it may alter these tests which could show false hyperthyroidism So again, if these are a concern don't take.
Also as someone mentioned, biotin is a water soluble supplement so any excess is excreted through urine; not absorbed by kidneys.
Still, long term affects of taking high doses of biotin are not known.
So maybe better to get all that biotin offers though food sources.
This isn't a cure, but Joan River's Great Hair Day (still at Amazon), is fun and nice to use. Or you could just use eye shadow too!

Only a small number of case reports support evidence of hair growth improvement from biotin supplementation and those cases were from children and infants where some already had hair growth disorders.
https://ods.od.nih.gov/factsheets/Biotin-HealthProfessional/
As for biotin and lab testing, biotin is used as an ingredient in certain lab testing kits and if you take biotin as a supp then those tests can be affected and not accurate.
