I have been using Alterna for colored hair and it does not make my hair feel clean and bouncy and products really make it flat. It seems if it protects the color it does not leave hair feeling clean. I would love some reccomendations. I never ever ever use conditioner. When it is time to color again I am going to use a clarifying shampoo to get off build up.

For years I have been using Redken Color Extending Shampoo and Conditioner. It does have sulfates which is probably part of the reason I like it. I tried many of the sulfate free shampoos and ended up with oily hair the same day...

@chiclet A friend of mine is a hair stylist. He told me that as long as the shampoo is gentle you can use it. So you don't necessarily need a shampoo specifically for colored hair. I would look for gentle shampoo without sulfates as sulfates are detergents. Another tip he gave me was you can water down your shampoo especially if you wash your hair daily.

@chiclet Try the Redken or Pureology lines, they are both great products.

I currently have 4 different shampoos in my shower, and wash my fine textured hair daily with Suave clarifying, Tresamme, L'Oréal, and Aveeno. Rotating this combo works well to protect fading with my red color, and the gray in my crown isn't usually noticeable until 10-12 weeks.

I use Elvive. I really like it & there are always coupons in Fridays paper.

@Katcat1 @chiclet Sulfate free shampoos are important because the sudsing agents pull out the color.
