Reaction to SPF -- can someone please explain?

What is the SPF that many women have a reaction to -- is it the natural kind or chemical? I recently received Josie Maran's new tinted SPF 40 and after one day I had two new zits. I was hoping that the natural SPF would not be a problem, but that's the only explanation.
