@ninjawife   Are there degrees to ask for? Like a lighter straight, medium straight, etc.

@Shanus This was my third kertain treatment in the last 5-6 years.  I did not ask for anything special, I just ask my hairdresser to give me a keratain treatment and this time  she chose to use the Brailizian Blowout brand.  Every time I have had a keratin treatment, no matter what brand was used, I have still have been able to wear my hair curly.  I really like the Brazilian Blowout as it was a much quicker process to have done, you can wash your hair as often as you like and it will not lose the effect faster and it has lasted for more than 3 months and I still have smooth hair.

Hi @Shanus .  I wasn't sure whether you said you had fine wavy/curly or thick but....

I have tried MANY a flat iron or device, always with caution as I too feared damage.  My hair is fine and curly.

Believe it or not one of the better tools I like to use is the Calista Triangl Pro.  It will straighten your hair with a less damaging heat and it allows you to get that more modern blunt edge.  I know you mentioned you wanted a beveled edge when speaking of a flat iron but this Triangl device allows you to achieve both looks.  How it is different is that the Calista Perfector (for which she is famous for) ONLY gave you a curled edge.  The difference between the two tools is rather dramatic.

Maybe you can view one of the demos of the Triangl to better see what I'm trying to explain.  It does check off all the boxes you're looking for:  gentle heat, heat adjustments and temporary - no permanent damage to your natural curls.

TO EDIT:  I forgot to mention it also has auto shut off.

@beach-mom   Yes, our hair does sound similar. Without any product, out of the shower and air dry, it goes wavy/curly. I add mousse or gel...it does look like a permenant. The good part is that it's not so curly that I can't straighten it out...just not quite as smoothe as I'd like. Yes, the next day it can be curly again.

Since I've been home so much, I've left it to do its thing, but am practicing "polish" for hopefully a big celebration out after my 2nd vaccine. It doesn't hurt to be optimistic.

@Shanus   I have naturally straight, fine hair, but have had several perms over the last couple of years, so I have some slight wave left.  I have a Chi flat iron that I use when I want it straight with a slight curl under at the ends.  It was a special sale at Ulta a few years ago so it has no temperature adjustment.  I have been seriously considering buying a Dyson flat iron, although they don't call it that.  It's spendy, but if it's at good at it's job as my Dyson hairdryer is at it's job, then my bet is that it's worth every penny.  One thing I really love about it is that it's a cordless rechargeable, and I think now having to fight that cord as I am also trying to deal with my hair and a tool would make a considerable difference.  The thing that holds me back from the purchase is that I don't really want my hair straight, I want it much curlier than it is right now.  I've had straight hair all my life and I'm sick of it, so do I want to spend a bunch of money on a flat iron?  The product videos on the Dyson website claim you can also curl with it, but I'm not sure.  I should just go to Ulta, buy one, and if I don't like it, I can return it.  Decisions, decisions.........

@CamilleP   I would think it's a big learning curve to achieve curls and striaght hair with a flat iron. Since I won't be using the iron that often, yes the Dyson anything is a little spendy. That's why I never invested in the dryer...let my hair air dry a lot of the time. If you don't want flat hair, the Revlon Volumizing Blow/Dry Brush is wonderful if your hair is long enough. It grabs at the root, you hold the hair vertically before pulling it out and down. I am having difficulty finding an iron w/ all my qualifications, but will continue to look. Thanks.

@Shanus - My hair tended to be frizzy, wavy, curly and a mess when the humidity hit. Every year I got a Keratin treatment (not Brazilian blow out). It lasted me about 4 months and my hair was straight.

Never had a problem or damage to my hair from the keratin treatment I received.

@fitfuninformed I have the triangle tool from Calista, in fact, I have two........in case one quit working LOL.   I use it to smooth the top of my hair to give it direction.  If I want to straighten the length, this is what I use.  I am past the age of having super straight hair with a 67 year old face.  I just straighten/smooth out the curls once in awhile for a change.  My hair is thick, curly, long, and naturally white.  Woman Wink  I am sure that there are some that think a 67 year old shouldn't have hair to the middle of the back, but ...........  oh well.....

Fear not Brothers and Sisters! I have read THE BOOK..........we win!!!

@fitfuninformed   Definitely checking all options. BTW, my hair is more fine wavy/curly, too.

@Shanus  The Dyson website has videos on how to use all their tools, which make me think I really could get a curl.  Another Dyson tool you might consider is their blow dryer/curler device, it has lots of attachments that would let you either smooth and straighten or style your curls, depending on your mood.  You wouldn't have to worry about the most common drawback mentioned in the reviews of that device, that the curl "falls out" after a while if your hair is straight.  Since your curls are natural, they should hold.  Anyway, watch the Dyson videos on their flat iron, it might be that what you can do with it, without worrying about damaging your hair like a normal hot tool would, might make it worth consideration.
