My tip is not to buy a foundation new to you right after the makeover. The lighting there is so different than outside lighting that I prefer to ask the SA for a sample of the foundation and then I try it on for a couple days in my regular life and lighting before going back and purchasing it!
Also, go with a look in mind (light daytime look, heavy going out look, deeper/lighter colors etc.) so you can tell the SA exactly what you want. Enjoy trying out new things

I've had makeovers several times, and never even thought about tipping. (And I tip everyone!) Yes, it's a nice thing they're giving you, but it's really all about sales. They want to get you into the store, knowing the odds are good that you'll buy when you're there.
So it's a sales ploy, but that doesn't mean it can't be fun and that doesn't mean you shouldn't enjoy it! They're presenting it as a "reward", so I think you should just sit back and enjoy!

I wouldn't tip a makeover. They do it so you buy the high-price items they use. My niece would do it at Nordstrom all the time & she made an excellent commission.

No tip necessary and an employee of the store or a vendor makeup artist should not accept one if offered.
If you like your results and want or need a product, a purchase is a way of saying 'thank you'. The best makeup artists I've had work a little magic (my expectations weren't too high) and didn't push product you don't want or need. (Of courses there are others - in my mind less skilled and professional that can be pushy.)
I think the key to being pleased with your results is making your preferences known up front. If you don't like heavy eye make up or bright lips (and don't want to experiment)... don't hesitate to tell them. Of course the make up artist should ask questions before beginning to understand what you are looking for. If the make up artist isn't being provided by a specific vendor I'm assuming they would be willing to use the items you mentioned so you can see if you like them.
Hope you have a fabulous artist and a good experience. Enjoy!

Try Hourglass Illusion Tinted Moisturizer. It's more dense but gives a glow. See about a sample; I think it may be what you're looking for.
