Question fro Clean Beauty devotees

I have numerous health issues and have gone with all Clean Beauty. However, once in a while I see an item, say TSV from Tarte or the Tarte eyeliners that I'd love to try. It's not listed under clean beauty so I've passed on it. Do any of you use anything not listed as clean as well? I'm not sure what to do. If my skin gets used to only clean products how much harm am I doing by introducing something that's not clean beauty?

Never underestimate the power of kindness.

Re: Question fro Clean Beauty devotees

There is no official standard of ingredients nor is there a legal list of 'clean beauty' ingredients. What some manufacturers claim as 'clean' may not be the same for others. Just depends on the brand. The use of 'clean beauty' on a product label is more about selling more product...a marketing ploy in other words. 'Clean beauty' is a concept created by the industry. It has no official ground for standardization. Be your own judge when it comes to using anything cosmetic.

Re: Question fro Clean Beauty devotees

I am not sure the harm can be much worse than just living....  as we are all being exposed to a lot of chemicals and toxics in the air, water, food all the time.

I wish clean beauty meant more than it does.  Just like that cruelty free bunny certification, it actually means nothing.

Just like organic.  Yes, that farmer or producer might use organic seeds and methods.  But nothing can stop pesticides being sprayed on crops in the next farm over from blowing onto the organic farmer.

The claims aren't realistic.  As some one else said, saying an ingredient is clean is subjective.

But with all that said, I think it is helpful to use your money as your vote for better products.  Companies sell what people buy.  More people want less toxic stuff and it those markets are growing.  Companies are ditching chemicals for whole ingredients.

@Imadickens   @SilleeMee is definitely right but you can still choose healthier products if you're willing to do the research. Since you said you have health problems you could start looking into specific ingredients in makeup and bath and body products that would be less harmful to your health. I use many clean products because of a talc allergy, mostly on my eyelids, but I don't buy 100% clean products.

Here's an example of what stands out to me about The Tarte Surfer Curl Eyeliners. Well first of all they don't list the ingredients on QVC. Ugh!  Tarte uses two types of wax in these liners, one is carnuba wax.  Yes, this wax is natural but it also blocks oil secretion of the meibobiam glands of the eyelids. That can cause or contibute to painful dry eye disease (which I have) and also other even more dangerous eye diseases. I don't buy eyeliners with carnuba, I only buy liners with the man made wax they gets washed away when you cleanse.

There's so much information on the internet to learn about products and raw materials that are healthier for you. It's not all or nothing, it's about incorporating products that will address and help improve your specific health concerns.

@decaf  Thanks so much for that important information. I have dry eye which normally does not bother me. I did have ( what I call) a bad attack recently. I had to go to the eye doc for medicine, etc. I am going to start looking at the ingredients of anything I put near my eyes.

@Janey2  You're welcome and thank you.  I started looking at ingredients out of necessity, my eye makeup was hurting and harming my eyes.  Tarte always says "it's good for you, it's all natural".  In this case the natural component is actually the worst one. Carnuba wax is used in car waxes because it takes many months to wear away, even with repeated car washing.  Not good for our eyes.

I try to avoid products with artificial colors and dyes, but some Clean Beauty still use them.

I also have severe dry eye and after reading your post I am wondering if you would share what brands of eyeliner and eyeshadow you use. Thank you so much.
