Question for beauty gurus

[ Edited ]

should your blush product be of the same type as your foundation? Like creme blush with liquid or creme foundation- powder with powder, etc? Same question about highlighters. Do you think it matters? I sometimes mix the types. Wonder if it looks right. 🤔

Re: Question for beauty gurus

@smoochy - I'm far from a beauty guru, but I love to play with makeup!

My answer, and what I do, is mix. I don't think it matters that much!  Smiley Happy

Well at my age I mostly feel invisible. Kind of ironic that i would even be thinking about this, lol. But like you, i do enjoy makeup amd want to look as good as i can.

Thanks!

I will use my standard Clinique foundation and Geller powder blush. Nothing else. I now avoid using fragrance, much as I used to love it, since I found out how many people  are allergic to it.

I don't think it matters @smoochy, just as long as it's all well blended/ seamless.

Re: Question for beauty gurus

What is it about your makeup that makes you think you look/ feel invisible? Is there a feature that you would like to bring forward but too shy or just don't think that you should? The most beautiful older women I see have a pop of color on their face. Maybe it's just a bright lipstick, maybe it's lipstick and blush but color is key to keep from looking washed out. Is your complexion even? A New York City dermatologist that is on YouTube says that more than wrinkles, an uneven skin tone shows age more ( than wrinkles). I 100% believe that. Niacinamide is the product that worked for me. Are you coloring your brows? Brows frame your face. Good luck!

lots to ponder... let's see. Mostly because im old, I dont want to look garish/overdone with makeup. So I think I've maybe gone too far in the opposite direction- the no makeup natural look. So then why bother, right? Lol

Objectively I believe in could use more cheek color. My complexion is uneven, some discoloration, but concealer and a powder foundation cover fairly well. Its a matte powder. Do i need more glow? I dont use eye shadow. Maybe my eyes kind of disappear behind my glasses.

Re: Question for beauty gurus

@smoochy

Are you familiar with the beauty YouTuber named Nicole Johnson? She specializes in makeup for older women. She always gives models a pop of bright lipstick.
There is a happy medium between disappearing and looking garish... that word always reminds me of Phantom of the Opera (g). I would suggest a natural or satin finish instead of a matte finish. Yes, if you wear glasses your eyes likely do kind of disappear. I don't think you need to wear Shadow if you don't want to but some mascara and pencil liner along the bottom lash line or you can with the end of a sponge applicator, dampened, and dip it in dark brown eyeshadow to use as liner at your lower lash line. I still think a pop of color on your lips will give you the biggest bang for your buck. Be sure and check out Nicole Johnson's YouTube page. Hope this helped.

A wise dermotologist I worked with said the best thing a woman can do to improve her (aged) looks is to authentically smile.

To answer your question I have done both, depending on my mood for the day.

Liner on the bottom, hmm. Hadn't thought of that. on my lips I usually wear a nude balm/gloss; currently my fave is by Estee Lauder. However I do own a MAC lipstick in a deep rose color. Will pull it out and see if that perks up my face. Okey doke I will check out the lady on YT.

I like high quality foundation, partial to EL or Lancome. Can get a near perfect color match. So perhaps a liquid with a radiant finish. Food for thought.

Your advice is appreciated. 😊
