Question about tracking numbers

Anytime a QVC item ships via USPS, the tracking number provided in the Q's shipping confirmation email never works when tracking on the USPS site. The W's number always starts with a 7 and USPS numbers always start with a 9. What's the deal?

I never noticed! I can track USPS just as well as I can UPS. That's all I care about. That and getting products by the time they were promised to me. So far in 2016, everything has arrived prior to its EDD. That's as good as I need them to be.

I just don't get why those numbers don't seem to work on the USPS site. I can't track anything the Q ships via USPS. And the link they offer is often inaccurate.

I just checked a couple of recent shipments that went USPS and had numbers beginning with '7'. Both tracking numbers worked fine for me and took me right to the tracking page.

The problem is, I don't want to go to QVC's tracking page. I often find it inaccurate. I want to use USPS's tracking directly on their website, but the number QVC provides starting with 7 isn't a valid tracking number to plug into usps' site.

Nine times out of ten, the USPS tracking numbers don't work for me either. They usually show "No tracking status available" or some other ridiculous status report. I recently returned an order to QVC via the prepaid USPS label. It took a week before any tracking activity appeared, and then several days later the status showed "Ready for Pickup, Brooklyn NY." What?? I shipped it FROM Brooklyn to QVC! It took another week before the status finally showed that my package had been delivered to QVC. Nearly two weeks passed between shipping and delivery with totally off-the-wall tracking.

I have the same issues with the USPS tracking numbers. I don't think I've ever had one show up on the USPS site as a valid tracking number.

It's annoying because I like to know when it will be delivered because there have been issues in the past where items have been stolen off of porches in my neighborhood.

The Q first uses a mail partner hence the 7. The mail partner

then delivers it to your local PO so the only way to track is via your account tracking info.

Yes, they use UPS Mail Innovations who then hands over the package to USPS. I also can't ever track QVC packages that are shipped that way. The tracking number doesn't ever exist on the UPS Mail Innovations site or on the USPS site. If I track from QVC I may get information about where the package is shipping from but I won't know when it has arrived until it's in my mailbox.
