Hi Ladies - for those of you who use a heat protectant on DRY hair (before using a curing iron), do you let the let the spray dry before going in with the heat?
I usually try to let my hair air dry after washing. Then I apply heat protectant. If I go right in with my curling iron (always set on “low”), I can sometimes hear the hair ‘sizzle’ and even see a bit of steam. If I wait and let the heat protectant spray dry, I am unsure if it is as effective in protecting my hair
Thanks!

As a former stylist, I know that hair should be dry before using any kind of flat or curling iron. Even with protection, you can burn your hair if it's wet/damp. Put the protectant on right after you towel dry and let your hair dry. Then use whatever iron you want. The protection is still there.

@CalminHeart Can you recommend a good heat protectant that won't cause yellowing?
TIA

If you have a Sally Beauty Supply, consider trying this thermo protect spray. It's a dry spray, so you can use your heat tools immediately. If you don't like it, you can return it. They have a great return policy! It's called Smooth Criminal Thermo Protect Spray, and I've used it for a few years now.

My daughter and I both flat iron our hair. She does hers daily. We have tried SO many heat protectant sprays (some quite expensive) and the best by far is ironically inexpensive. Tresemme Keratin Smooth Heat Protectant Spray (red bottle) is only $6. It smooths the hair but really protects it from damage without being too heavy or greasy. Smells great too.A couple of sprays on each section of dry hair is adequate.

I like NEURO Prime (by Paul Mitchell on Amazon). It's a non-yellowing cream in a pump bottle. I apply on towel dried hair, comb through with wide tooth comb and then fluff my curls back up and air dry. Why a heat protectant then? Sometimes I need to dry with a diffuser if not dry and need to leave or touch up a wayward wisp with a small barrel curling iron. It's good to know the protectant is already in my hair just in case.
Sometimes the sprays don't end up all through my hair...hit or miss some sections.

I've tried using hair protectants myself....and don't care for them. They seem to be high in alcohol (which makes the sizzling sound) and weights down my hair. Even Paul Mitchell's $$ hair protectant was mostly alcohol and made my hair feel dirty. I threw it away.

@busymom22 I second this! I've been using this for a number of months now (on my 3rd bottle), and it's wonderful.
I spray it on towel-dried hair and comb thru, then blow dry. I also use a curling brush, but I don't put any more on after drying. My hair is so smooth!

@Swedishmiss I wait till it dries. I use L'oreals in the dark purple-black spray bottle or Shwartzkopfs in the yellow spray bottle. Walmart or Ulta when there is a discount. Both are under $8. Best I've found.

I third this! I've tried many products before this one (at all price points); this is my favorite!
