I'm not @Q4u, but I personally have thought of changing my eBay name.  My username as a customer is something I came up with many years ago, and now that I am looking at selling, it doesn't seem appropriate anymore.

Maybe the people selling are indecisive about whether their name fits their store.  It's not like they can hide the fact that they've changed names (unless they start a totally new account from scratch, with no feedback...which could make a lot of people afraid to buy).

Maybe someone who is already a seller can weigh in on this?

It may be wiser to establish a second ID soley for use as a buyer and for posting on eBay's boards, use the original ID to sell, and keep the two identities completely separate. That way, as someone else mentioned, if you score a great deal for $20 there and turn around and list it for $100, you won't have to deal with the ire of people who are checking your buying history (some do), or the original seller. You protect yourself from a hostile purchase, where the buyer's sole intent is to trash your feedback.

Same goes for the eBay chat boards. You never know what will set off some nut, who'll make it his or her goal to take you down. If you're just using a buyer ID to post, the worst that will happen is you'll be added to a lot of blocked bidder lists.

If you are going to talk on the eBay boards, establish a new account for that purpose ONLY.  The reason is that the people on those boards are experts in being able to "see" what you have bought, or sold and many of them look for problems!  They then will bring the problems to the board to "discuss".

They have found many counterfeits that way, they've found scams (or what they think are scams).... suspicion of shilling.... and THAT one is awful because the person may not be shilling at all!!

Some of these so-called sleuths think they are really good at this stuff and they aren't, and then the poor person who hasn't done anything wrong is flagged and eBay gets involved!

Easier to have absolutely nothing for anyone to get into.... Make an account just for chatting and nothing else....

You think THIS board can get nasty sometimes?  Ebay's boards can get 20x worse and there's an attitude that they want to destroy your business and maybe even hurt you if they can find you.  Ebay has made it harder to do this as the years have gone by, but it's still bad.  I only just left a few years ago after having been on their boards since 2000!  I still sell full time and love selling, am a Powerseller and a Top Rated Seller..... but don't need or want their boards....

@Q4u  Thanks for posting about this.  I guess I didn't realize that it's not unusual for people to be that malicious.  I know people can be easily offended and insulting, but I didn't realized that threatening behavior and trying to ruin your business were happening frequently enough to worry about it...or that they could do it so easily.

I guess I have a lot to learn.
