Does anyone have any remedies for swollen puffy eyes? I had to put my 14 year old dachshund down on Monday. It was horrible, he had cushings and was not getting better. Of course I cried a lot, and now my eyes two days later are still puffy and swollen. I took some ibuprofen and even iced them that night, knowing how sore they would be the next day. I also have a tiny puffy like bump under my eye as well on my right side, I assume because I sleep more on that side? The puffiness had gone down yesterday but it was there again upon waking up. I’m 46 now and guess I can’t cry, what is going on and is there anything I can do to speed things up? Someone asked me at work today about it. Ugh. TIA!

I'm so sorry for your loss. This may sound silly but I use Preparation H cream for puffiness around my eyes. Just make sure not to get it in your eyes. It really does work!

Thank you. He has been with me it seems forever, and it was one of the hardest things to go through. I kept trying not to cry, as I knew I would look like a wreck. Will the prep H look greasy? Should I try putitng it on at night instead of the am? Would the cream work as opposed to the oinment? Thank you again.

Ladyjenn,
I know how very sad you are. I was in the same situation 3 years ago and couldn't stop crying. I finally told God that I couldn't bear it and from then on saw so many signs that my beautiful grandog was there with me in spirit, I started writing them down. I now know he is with me 24/7.
And now for the eyes. I thought the same thing-"I guess I can't cry anymore." I have tried wet tea bags and cucumbers (very soothing) but don't seem to help but the puffy bump under your eye sounds like what I have several times-an opthamalogist said that can happen when our tear ducts get clogged. And several times it turned into something I'd never heard of -blepharitis-what the heck?!(some kind of hideous eye infection)
Anyway she said hold a hot wash cloth as hot as you can stand over your eyes several times a day until it is no longer hot! This worked! I was so relieved esp cause I could take care of it myself anywhere and anytime.
I have gotten some kind of rx ointment in the past for it also(when it looked like it was getting an infection that would spread) from a primary care and that worked too.
but the hot water for the bumps really took care of it.
If it starts to go on my lid, like the lid getting red I've also used otc eye ointments but the hot water worked the best and it was gone in about 2 days and better almost right away.
And may you know your sweet doggie is there with you forever!

I use the cream and it does not look greasy at all. I put it on in the am before I use a cream foundation, but I would think using it in the evening before bedtime would also work. Good luck to you and again I'm sorry for your loss.

Adding my sympathy as well. It's so hard losing a beloved pet. Be comforted that you gave your furbabby a happy life.
For your eyes, try chilled used teabags - caffeinated green tea is best. Lean back and put your feet up. Apply the teabags to your eyes, making sure the puffy area is completely covered. Stay put for about 30 mins.

I'm so sorry for your loss. I would try one of those cold eye masks you can refrigerate and getting extra sleep. Cool tea bags might help too.

Well wouldn't you know it I do have blepharitis. I have noticed the bump sometimes also from too much sleeping! I will def try those suggestions, except for the tea bag, I don't have 30 minutes to wait in the morning, I'm on my feet getting ready for work. I am going to try it tonight when I get home. Thank you for your kind words. I'm waiting for his ashes and they will be on my nightstand where he belongs. I have his wife/best bud still with me, a female short haired doxie, to keep me company!

I'm so sorry about your loss. I'm glad you have your girl for company. She might need some extra snuggling. It's so painful when we have to lose one of our pets. They are family.
I hope your eyes start feeling better soon! The warm compresses will help. If you can, elevating your upper body or at least your head and neck while sleeping will help reduce the swelling. Keep us posted. (((Ladyjenn)))
