Has anyone else had a bad reaction to TT? I just can't believe it, I was so excited to finally try all of the TT products and they make my scalp flaky and itchy!! I've always had a bad scalp, but since I started using WEN in Nov it totally cleared up (I even colored my hair darker b/c I wasn't worried about flakes anymore).

Until the last TSV I had only used POM and the seasonal's. By the second time I used the TT products (oils,cc and remoist) my scalp started getting flaky and itchy again. Almost like some kind of reaction to the TT?? Is that even possible???

Any WEN advice would be helpful since I'm kinda still new{#emotions_dlg.confused1}

do you have a wheat allergy? POM and the seasonals are soy based. If they are working for you and your scalp cleared up then I would skip the TT forever. Glad that other scents are working for you.

Have you changed the way you cleans your hair from the way you do it with Pom? Rinsing, pumps, leave on time, things like that.

Of course it's possible to get a reaction, and yours may have been worsened by using all tea tree products at the same time. It could be a reaction just one of the products, but I would focus on the cc and the oil rather than the Remoist. All remoists have the same basic formula with just enough of the essential oils for the scent.

My advice would be to return to what you were using until your scalp clears up, then try the tt oil or cc alone and see which one is causing your problems. If it's the oil, then it's probably the tea tree oil itself, if it's the cc, it could be the wheat.

I get an itchy scalp from the soy based cc's - so it's good we have a choice.

One other thing, did you try them close to when you had your hair colored?

I use POM, BGT, 613 and the seasonals. I also useTea Tree and when I do, I get slightly itchy around contact points (scalp, forehead hairline, neckline, ears) It wasnt too bad though and didn't really make a connection until I used the Tea Tree oil on my scalp recently and I was an itchy mess. Okiebug may be right about the Tea Tree oil because it caused a much more severe reaction than the Tea Tree cc. Sadly, I have given the Tea Tree to my daughter, who doesn't have those issues. I do have allergies so that may be a factor and I am prone toward dermatitis. Dry heat in the winter may have also aggravated the problem. May be a tea tree oil allergy, may be wheat sensitivity, may be winter dryness, IDK. Frustrating because it gives my hair great body. Guess soy based is the way to go for me. POM oil is great for my hair and waiting patiently for 613 oil. Glad we have many choices, something for everyone.

jen21, I'm sorry that the tea tree oil products may have irritated your scalp or possibly exacerbated a reaction you were having to a wheat-based CC.

I've been reading and posting on the Wen Forum board for a few years now. One of the reasons that the TT CC has been such a good universal formula to recommend is that not many people seem to have a bad reaction to it. That said, with essential oils, there is always the possibility of a skin irritation. It just seems to depend on the specific essential oil and an individual's body chemistry. There are no hard and fast rules.

As okiebug suggested, the TT products may have just exacerbated your reaction to the wheat-based formula. I think her advise about trying the individual TT products one at a time (after your scalp heals up) is a great idea. Try each of these products for a few weeks and take a week off between products so you can isolate which products are problematic. Of course, it any products causes another skin irritation, then stop using it immediately.

In the interim, once your scalp is feeling better, you might want to buy some 100% organic jojoba oil and use that on your scalp. Desert Essence sells an organic version (pesticide free) for around $15. Jojoba oil is most similar to our scalp's oil sebum (body oil) and is easily absorbed. Most people don't have skin irritation issues with it, and it's the main ingredient in Chaz's oils.

Best of luck, and keep us updated on your progress!!

When I first tried TT I had a MASSIVE allergic reaction. I turned red as a lobster and itched! But a year later I tried it again and no reaction. maybe because now I take Zyrtec every day?

I'm sorry you had trouble with TT. Like others stated, if you have a wheat allergy that might be why the TT gave you that reaction. I think everyone here gave great advice and are great ways to go about testing the TT again if you want to. I've only been using Wen since December and biggest thing I've learned from using it and from posts on the Wen forum is to experiment. Smile Good Luck!!

I'm not a wen expert but I would say it's more likely to be the TT itself than wheat. I've tried many TT hair products over the years and they've all caused a reaction to some degree from itching, redness, burning all the way to oozing sores Smiley Sad I have psoriasis on my scalp. My mother is a hair dresser and was always bringing me TT stuff to try. It wasn't until the reactions got bad that I figured out it was the TT and the burning wasn't it "working" So now I avoid it. Since I don't use it an occisional shampoo at the hairdresser is usually ok
