Recently I took antibiotics for an infection and they cleared all the rosacea bumps I had on my face. I also have redness from rosacea. A few days after ending the antibiotics, my face started breaking out again. So I'm figuring it must have something to do with the bacteria in my gut. I eat Greek yogurt, but the cultures in that don't seem to help. Does anyone take probiotics for their rosacea? If so, what kind?

Thanks in advance!

I do not know if probioptics has anything to do with rosacea, but a friend takes a low dose antibiotic and it cleared up her rosacea tremendously. Speak to your doctor.

When you eat yogurt, there also needs to be a fiber-rich diet taken so as to promote the probiotic effect of the yogurt. You need both to experience the benefits. The good bacteria in the yogurt needs the fiber to survive in the gut. Without it, their numbers decline and it becomes least effective.

I took low dose doxycycline for years and it did help a lot! The problem is that it elevated my liver enzymes so I had to stop taking it, unfortunately.

@SilleeMee Thanks for the info! I eat the yogurt at lunch and don't eat very much fiber with it, so I'll try doing that.

You're welcome @Violet Fields .

I find it helps to check the fiber content on the nutrition labels on the foods I eat to see how much I'm getting from that. Plus I take a fiber supplement.

I take a probiotic every day it does nothing to help my rosacea.

I just finished a round of antibiotics and it did nothing either for the rosacea.

Why is it, when I have a 50/50 guess at something, I'm always 100% wrong?

@SilleeMee My favorite snack is plain Greek yogurt with a little All Bran on top for crunch and a teaspoon or 2 of maple syrup.

@Violet Fields

Are you seeing a derm for your rosacea?  If not, I think it could help to go.  There are a lot of different things they can prescribe.  I have taken Floristor for years, primarily for my stomach.  It hasn't done anything to help rosacea.  Also, I eat greek yogurt a lot -- don't see that this helps either.

I have redness and the red bumps (which resemble blemishes) and I was prescribed Metrocream.  It does seem to help a lot.  If your skin is oilier, they would probably prescribe the gel form.

I was recently told by my derm. that niacinomide (sp) supplements can help.  You can purchase this OTC.  He said taking 500 mg. x a day is what he would recommend.  I haven't tried it yet so I can't say if it works.

I know there are many skin products on the market which has niacinomide in it.  So, maybe these are some options.
