I make my own and yes, it does make a difference.

My steps are VitC, Nia, serums, an oil then sunscreen. I don't use creams or "moisturizers", there's no need because my serum's contain emollients, humectents and oils. The additional oil provides lipids, which are emollients and I chose this oil for it's vitamin and anti-oxidant properties, so I think it works well for daytime.

The primer creates a canvas that is a smooth finish and an added bonus is it also contains a humectent. It works to prevent the oils and other emollients from absorbing the finishing powders and blush that I apply, so powders don't catch anywhere and they last (including eye shadow when I use it) until I take them off.

Magemay, do you put on Vitamin C and is the (nia) niacinimide together?

I rarely wear makeup, but when I do I use a primer. Usually LG..either the regular or the Champagne. It depends on which makeup I'm using.

Sometimes I apply the primer, let it dry and then apply my makeup. And sometimes I will mix the primer with my LG BB Cream and then apply to my face....I get the most compliments on my skin with this concoction.

And yes, I think it makes a difference.

Yes, they make a difference for baked, powder, or mineral foundations. Not so sure about liquid foundation or CC creams.

I've worn Laura Geller's baked Balance and Brighten, Blush and Brighten, and Bronze and Brighten with and without Mally or LG primer underneath. These products blend better and wear longer with primer than without. I get a nicer smoother finish with primer.

And I prefer Mally's primer to LG or Smashbox. HTH

Oh and eyeshadow primer is an absolute MUST. Almost no point in wearing powder eyeshadow without primer under it. Smooth color...no creasing...A must.

Which eye primer do you use? Thanks.

No, the 1st Vit C that I apply is L-Ascorbic acid. Nia and LAA require 2 different pH's and should not be used together. I wait about 20-30 mins between applications of the 2.

I apply according to pH:

LAA first on skin, mine is pH of 3, wait 20-30 mins then...

Serums w/MAP and SAP which require pH of about 5.5-6.5 wait another 10 mins then....

Nia, pH of 6

I wear a Mally eyeshadow that has her shadow primer right next to it in the compact. Many of her shadow compacts and pallets include it. It's great and wears well and really convenient. When it's right there you remember to use it. Just pat it on quick with a finger.

I've also used Urban Decay and Benefit's shadow primers and had great luck with them. Heard good things about Too Faced's Shadow Insurance, but I'm happy with Mally so I haven't tried it.

I use my primer for many things. Sometimes I mix it in my bb cream; or alone with BE mineral foundation over top and then after I've applied all my night time skin care--seems to seal it all in and it doesn't rub off on my pillow. I am loving Skinn orchid gel primer right now.

Primers put a barrier between your moisturizer and your makeup. Without it, as your moisturizer is absorbed into you skin, it takes your makeup with it. I notice it the most with blush. Without primer my blush is gone within hours. With primer it lasts until I remove it.

Interesting. I guess I've never actually had it explained quite this succinctly. Makes sense. But where does it fall in order with sunscreen? Moisturizer, sunscreen, primer?

Question to all: Does everyone who uses primer also use sunscreen? Does anyone feel that a sunscreen containing silicone can act as a decent primer?

Porcelain, does eyeshadow primer help prevent shadow fall-out? I use very high-end shadows, a good shadow brush, and I still have some shadow fall under my eyes. I don't know how to keep the shadow on my lids!
