Do you think it really helps? I notice most of the primers contain silicone, which I am not crazy about. Is there a primer that really stands out from the rest? What do you thing of Laura Geller's primer?

@SeaMaiden, Yes, I do think they work, and I am a big fan of Laura Geller's Moisturizing Spackle!

I used Laura Geller’s Spackle years ago when I was using her Balance ‘n’ Brighten. I don’t know that it made much of a difference. I’ve been using Missha BB Boomer for a good couple of years or so before applying moist types of foundation or BB/CC cream and believe it’s a worthwhile step.

@SeaMaiden I tend to think not. I have samples of Laura Mercier and I have used it from time to time but now I don't use it at all and I don't see any difference. I mean, how long do you want our foundation to last? Mine is still on when I wash my face at bedtime. ![]()

I like Bare Minerals Complexion Rescue. It does make a difference for me.

I think primer helps foundation to go on more evenly/smoothly and helps to make pores less visible.

I always use a primer and I have a few different ones. The Smashbox Primer Water is one of my favorites and I usually get it during the Ulta sale for half price. It’s tacky when applied and I feel like my foundation has something to cling to. I have one similar to this from Mehron, but it’s applied with a cotton round and is cheaper. It’s gets very tacky, and I know this is a brand that is used by MUA. I only use it for special occasions when I know I want my makeup to stay for a longer period.
I think it’s personal preference as with anything. I personally swear by using a primer.

I've never had much luck with primers and I think it's because I live in a hot, humid climate and start to sweat as soon as I step outside. Whatever makeup I have on liquifies and slides off. No makeup survives sweating in s. Florida during the summer.
Most of the newer liquid foundations are water and silicone mixtures and have a built-in primer. But, some of the older ones, like the original liquid L'Oreal True Match, really needs a primer first so it doesn't settle into pores and wrinkles.
Youtuber Angie w/ Hot n Flashy has done reviews and wear tests on many of the most popular primers so you might want to view her videos to narrow down the type of primer you need with your makeup before you purchase one.
